Should Cell Phones Be Allowed In School
There is more than one side to the debate about cell phone availability during school. One claim is that students should be allowed to have their phones on them and use their cell phones during appropriate times. In the article, the authors provide details about how there are numerous reasons why cell phones should be allowed during school. Students should be allowed access to cell phones, because if they are responsible enough to be going off to college in a year or so, they should be responsible enough to have a cell phone on them and use it wisely (George and Cook). Another reason why cell phones should be allowed in school is because otherwise it can create a divide between the students and the teachers. Students are so invested in their phones, so if a teacher …show more content…
The counterclaim is students should not be permitted access to cellphones during the school day. Cell phones should not be allowed during school because, in previous years, students have called in bomb threats (Lee and McMahon). Another reason why cell phone restrictions are necessary is because they are a distraction. Students use them more for entertainment purposes versus educational purposes (Lee and McMahon). A final point made in the article is cell phones have the capability of taking pictures which can lead to cheating. Students could take pictures of a test and send it to another student so that the could figure out the answers ahead of time (Lee and McMahon). The picture taking abilities on a phone can also lead to inappropriate pictures. When in a locker room, students could take a picture of another student without the other student even knowing (Lee and McMahon). Based off of the evidence in the articles, “Cell Phones Should not be Allowed in Schools” and “Counterpoint: Cell Phone Regulations are not Necessary”, cell phones should be allowed during appropriate times throughout the school

After reviewing Sheyenne's cell phone policy and researching the benefits and drawbacks of cell phones, I urge you to revise the cell phone policy, and allow more cell phone use in the school. Cell phones are permitted in certain parts of the school, but the technology needs to be integrated into the classrooms. With this incorporation of technology in the classroom it can provide more depth in the lesson, and collaboration among students. Some teachers may see the use of cell phones in the classroom as disrespectful. They perceive this as disrespectful, for they took time to prepare the lesson, and the student is not paying attention. In actuality the student is not disturbing others, and if they decide to not pay attention,…

For example, the article “Should We Ban Cell Phones in the Classroom?” explains that cellphones distract students from what they should focus on (Mageau 2). Distraction cause the student to fall behind, which lead to cheating on test due to the lack of knowledge he/she was on his/her phone instead of paying attention in class. Even if the student is not caught cheating during an exam, the student would still be victim of distraction of the phone because they did not learn the material causing them to resort to cheating. The constant buzzing, ringing, and flair of light catches a student’s attention which leads to the engaging in the phone rather the teacher. Social disconnection also leads to a decrease in the success rate of a student’s school performance. In Collie’s article “Mobile Technology for the Classroom,” he explains that students who use cellphones in schools are socially disconnected from other peers and teachers (Collie 80). Research shows that students who misuse their cell phones in class struggle in academics. Cyberbullying also ties into a student’s academic success rate. Cellphone usage among teens in school can result in either an advancement in knowledge or drama caused by cyberbullying. For instance, in the article “Is it Safe to Allow Cellphones in School,” Kenneth Trump discuss that cyberbullying is more prevalent…
