Technology has worsened our world by being a springboard for many people today in the corporate world all the way to the schools. It has made us all become dependent and use computers and the internet for almost everything. Technology is contrary to nature because of the steel that is being mined from the earth and the metals that are dug from the ground. Technology should not be taken completely but limited to the ones who abuse it. People who are in the corporate world should be the ones with legal access to the technology due to their nature of work. Our world has become dependent on technology to an unnatural level; therefore we should limit access to technology and use what we have.…

They have greatly increased the life-expectancy of those of us who live in “advanced” countries, but they have destabilized society, have made life unfulfilling, have subjected human beings to indignities, have led to widespread psychological suffering (in the Third World to physical suffering as well) and have inflicted severe damage on the natural world.” I have experienced technological advancements by working with any new software on a computer and the constantly evolving world of phones and computer, so I have some mixed feelings in agreement to both views. It is through this I have learned that technology evolving can be good but it does, at times, come with heavy burdens and consequences for the…

In the course of time, technology will soon take over if it is not controlled. “By the Waters of Babylon”, written by Stephen Vincent Benét, tells the story of a young member of the Hill People who has been curious about the ancient civilization before him. Benét is trying to get the message out to his readers that mankind is becoming so dependent on technology and machines that they will soon destroy themselves, It also creates a disturbing view on what was going to happen to mankind if they continued to let technology run their lives. With his pessimistic view on what he thinks will happen in the future, he believes that with doing the little things here and there, it is what will end humanity.…

Technology has shaped and defined human activity and it has made life easier but more dangerous. As Langdon Winner explains in his piece, Technological Somnambulism, technology is a neutral tool. It can be used in a positive or a negative way. As well, Modern technology can be dangerous in many different ways. As more technology becomes available to the public, more people rely on it. This could be a problem; for example when many people want to figure something out, they will probably just type the question into Google. Technology allows us to think less about certain things, which may be easier but it “dumbs us down”. This could be considered dangerous because we may rely on technology too much and we could become lazy with our everyday rituals. With that said, technology has also helped us improve medicine and science to help cure certain diseases. Without these improvements we wouldn’t be as strong as a community. There seems to always be positive and negative things that come with technology.…

Technology has been humans help since the beginning of time. We rely on technology to do the hardest and the simplest things for us. In the film “Idiocracy” the people in that city was so consumed by technology they allowed their city to become a disgusting waste land full of trash. They have become fat, lazy people that just sits on the couch and watch violent television shows all day long. But the question is “Is technology good or bad for the American people?” I would not say that technology is either good or bad for the people because it does prove good advances in the medical world. But they do have their downs as well.…

Technology is something that has affected the way of living for the whole world's population. It's not completely clear if it has affected the population in a positive or in a negative way. Technology specially affected the ways of communication we use nowadays and has changed our perspective of the world. Going back to the 19th century where the first telephone was invented and later on the production of successful commercialized telephones in the late 19th century, this use of technology used to improve the long distance communication had a really positive impact in society. Later on, technological devices for communication were improved and the printing press and 19th century telephones were left behind. Nowadays, the presence of new media…

The person of the 21st century has the luxury of being dependent on technology, allowing for certain weaknesses to sprout out of individuals due to their lack of natural abilities. Technology is the making, modification, use, and knowledge of tools, machines, or techniques, in order to solve a problem, improve a preexisting solution to a problem, achieve a goal, or perform a specific function. It’s true; technology has made life more efficient and reliable. Many great inventions have been possible through technology. Technology is also one of the causes of people becoming lazier, uninspired, and less creative. Technology is not bad in and of itself, but people are misusing it. Planes, trains, and automobiles carry people from place to place at high speeds. Telephones, television and computer networks help people communicate with others across the world. Medical technologies from vaccines to Stem Cell therapy, allow people to live longer, healthier lives. Although most people think technology made life easier, it’s actually making them overly dependent on those technologies.…

Change in technology happens rapidly on a daily basis. As Schlesinger expresses, “The last two lifetimes have seen more scientific and technological achievement that the first 798 put together”(Schlesinger 41). Whether it deals with cars, travel, medicine, media, or a host of other topics, advancements in technology are occurring all around us. It is up to us whether to accept these changes or not. Many believe that change in technology is a hindrance, causing more problems than solutions. I believe technology has created a safer environment, revolutionized the way we look at different ideas, and resolved many economic problems in industries! In other words, change is inevitable and people should readily accept it.…

I learned a lot of new information from the Shift Happens video. This video opened my eyes to many new things. I learned that the United States is not necessarily the best country to live in and it is not the best at everything, far from it actually. India has more honors kids than United States has kids. I personally think this is very shocking because there is a ton of kids that live in the U.S. and the fact that India has more honors kids than the U.S. even has kids is just insane. Another piece of information I learned was that the top 10 in-demand jobs in 2010 didn’t even exist in 2004. This basically means that students are being prepared for jobs that don’t even exist yet. I think this is pretty cool and it makes me happy that jobs are still being created because a lot of people will always be out of jobs and the fact that new ones are being created will help people out. One last piece of information I learned from the video would be that 1 in 8 couples married last year met online. I have some good and bad feelings about this piece of information. I think it’s good that people are finding people they can love in different ways and it’s helping them live their lives to the fullest but it seems that more people nowadays are living online. I think that people that live online are scared of the real world. If you can meet someone online you should just as easily be able to meet someone in real life. Some implications I got from this about my future and career would be that it might be smart to go into some career to do with business or technology because those seem to be the fastest growing things. One thing that stood out to me was that there is a prediction that a super computer will be built by 2013 that exceeds the computational capabilities of the entire human species. Technology keeps getting better and this means that it would be an awesome career field to go into to. Another implication about my future from the video is that the job I…
