The myth of chapter 5 is the myth of communication and miscommunication. This chapter discussed the importance of communication to the victory of invaders especially the Spaniards. The interpreters were “invaluable members of the expedition” (p83). Invaders used the interpreters to communicate with the native emperors and native people. As though, the interpreters earned credits from their captains “Nahuas soon dubbed Cortes himself with the name of Malinche, as though captain and interpreter were one. Indeed, Cortes never seems to have let Malinche out of his sight” and gained the native people’s respect “the Mexica and other Nahuas also recognized her status, giving her name the Nahuatl honorific suffix of –tzin that turned Marina into Malintzin”…

“Verbal communication is the spoken word and includes actual words, intended and inferred meanings, tone and inflection.”(Lee, Duck, McMahan, & Lambert, 2011) Verbal communication is what most people use as communication everyday. Many companies start their business day verbally communicating with every employee. This is usually when the daily game plan is gone over. Everyone states what their “to do list” is for the day and if there are adjustments to be made then, this is the time it is done. This kind of communication lets everyone feel that they are part of the larger goal.…

Various intervals you are put in a location where you are not acquainted with the outcome and might have anticipated that you may possibly have gone to greater heights to accomplish it. Some encounters later you might realize what went wrong and how you could have improved to undertake the situation that was not favorable to your style of approaching it. I have encountered this type of dilemma a few times in my life and some of those times I still do not have an adequate solution. One time I was in line to see a famous singer in a stadium, as I entered through the doors and was trying to communicate with the individual managing the ticket booth however was having a difficult time. My first communication strength is listening to my friends and family. I am very adept at listening to my friends and families because I’m competent at the five stages of listening, specifically: receiving, understanding, remembering, evaluating, and respond. I have this uncle named Rajah who tells stories non-stop. He can start a story at eight in the morning, and then continue until three in the afternoon. His family would tune him out around ten- thirty, but I would listen because he loved attention and he was a very entertaining man (also I don’t see him as much so all his stories are new to me). The reason he has lots to talk about is because he came to Canada five years ago, thus he has seen and experienced a lot back home in Sri Lanka.…
