Drive By Shooting Case Study
1. A drive-by shooting occurred in Durham, North Carolina, at 10:14 p.m., Friday, February 12th. During this drive-by an innocent elderly woman was injured and the Durham County Sheriff's Office is looking for any suspects associated with the crime. Local officials claim that the elderly woman was sent to the hospital, Friday night with life-threatening injuries. A 72-year-old woman, whose name was not released, was reported to be wounded while was inside her home at 3017 Forrester St., according to the Sheriff's office. At least two of the women's relatives were also inside the home, but were unharmed. Detectives are currently asking for the public's help to help identify any suspects involved in this unsettling case.
2. Deputies were able to uncover a reported meth lab on Thursday afternoon in Wake County. Authorities claim that at the time the search warrant was served, there were a total of seven adults and an 18 month old child living at the home. The Raleigh HazMat team was on the scene to decontaminate those staying in the home. Although officers were able to determine that the meth lab was not active, four people were arrested and charged with possession of methamphetamine, possession of precursors, maintaining a dwelling, and possession of drug paraphernalia. It has been confirmed that Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia has died at the age of 79. The Supreme Court's ideological conservative known for his fiery comments in and out of the courtroom died on February 13th, Saturday. As stated by Barack Obama this Saturday night, "Scalia was a brilliant legal mind with a pugnacious style, incisive wit, and colorful opinions," Obama also stated, "He will no doubt be remembered as one of the most consequential judges and thinkers to serve on the Supreme Court." Chief Justice Roberts said that both him and his justices were saddened to hear about his death. As of now, the circumstances surrounding his death are not immediately confirmed by NBC

    Facts: After spending a morning and afternoon drinking beer and injecting cocaine, Pervis Tyrone Payne entered the apartment of 28-year-old Charisse Christopher and her two children, Lacie, age two and Nicholas, age three at approximately 3:00 p.m. on June 27th, 1987. Payne made sexual advances toward Charisse Christopher. She resisted, which lead Payne to kill both Charisse and Lacie. Nicholas was found with several severe stab wounds that completely penetrated him front to back, but he managed to survive. Payne was apprehended later that day hiding in the attic of a former girlfriend’s house. Payne was convicted by a jury of two counts of murder. At sentencing, Payne presented the testimony of his mother, father, Bobbie Thomas and a clinical psychologist.
