SHELTER HOMES
ABSTRACT
The Shelter Home has become an integral part in our society, and there is a great deal of the family those do exist and have least potential to afford the old age people at homes.
Although researches shows that there are great deal of problems that are bean faced by the families and the shelter houses that are being working now a days in the society.
In this project our main aim to open up the eyes of the society and reach consumers.
SITUATION ANALYSIS
Dynamic changes are occurring in global environment. A remarkable recovery of economy is being observed after great global recession. Pakistan is developing country and influenced by multiple global and domestic factors. Although the overall economy of Pakistan is not well-established but individual income level is increasing. People are now more hesitant, conscious and rational. These factors lead the people send their elders to the shelter houses and have caused serious problems for the old agers.
The percentage of old age people which are being send to the shelter houses is rising and it shows that the offspring’s are more hesitant, careless and rude to the elders.
This thing really reminds me the words of the great man of the century.
“I fear the day technology will surpass our human interaction. The world will have a generation of idiots.”

The place SHELTER HOMES
An old age home is usually the place for old people. A home for those old people who have no one to look after them. A home for those who have been thrown out of their homes by their children.

GROWING HOME AGES IN KARACHI:
In 2006 there were only 3 old age homes in Karachi but the official number has gone up to 6. Many social workers believe, however, that the number is higher because several homes are not registered with Government. WHY OLD AGE HOMES IN PAKISTAN:
Living together with elder people in homes is our culture but children take them as a problem. Our culture says “NO” to old age homes but reality says “YES.” Our religious and ethical belief does not allow us to have old age homes in our country. According to Islamic teachings, we must be obedient and must show kindness to parents. In HOLY QURAN it is narrated that “Obeying parents, treat them respectfully is next to worshiping ALLAH”. Being grateful to your parents makes you grateful to ALLAH. Children send their old parents to old age homes this is against the teachings of Islam. In the light of Holy Quran and HOLY PROPHET’S sayings, one can understand the special place of parents in Islam.

¨ The Holy Quran says, “Your Lord has decreed that you worship none but Him, and that you be kind to parents. Whether one or both of them attain old age in the life, say not to them a word of contempt, nor repel them, but address them in terms of honor.”-surah Al Isra.
Our Prophet (PBUH) said, “If a person obeys his parents, attends to their needs and keep them happy and comfortable, he will attain Paradise. On the other hand, if he is disrespectful and rude to them, offends them by ignoring their needs and feelings, his place shall be in HELL”.
LOWER YOURSELF TO OLD PARENTS:
Every human being having reached old age needs more service and care. The society must not ignore the rights of senior members. ALLAH (S.T) said: “And lower to them shoulders with humility and meekness and say my Lord have mercy upon them (both) as they brought me up when I was little”
PARENTS DOOR OF HEAVEN:
Our duties to parents are resembled with the gates of paradise by the beloved Messenger of ALLAH
He ( S.A.W) said: “Father or a parent is the best gate of the Paradise. So , if you like guard the gate or destroy it.”
CHARGES OF OLD AGE HOMES:
Some old age homes are supported by the government and some which are independent are known as paid old age homes. Charges are between 3,000 and 75,000 as an initial deposit.Later , they charge a monthly fee ranging from 750 to 9,000 depending on the facalities. They provide basic facilities like:
.Three meals a day.
.Two cups of tea or coffee daily.
.Full time medical care.

Some advantages are below:
Safety.
Companionship.
Regular health checkup.
Being active.
Entertainment.
Urge to earn again.
Self-reliant.
living with their age group people makes them happy Some disadvantages are below:
It is the breakup of the joint family system.
Old age homes separate old people from their children.
They do get their daily needs fulfilled but, from where will the love of the dear ones come.
OBJECTIVES OF SURVEY
The primary aim of this project is to make strategic decision whether the people in shelter homes are facing the hardships or they are feasible and more over under which circumstances they are here for.
To understand the people living in shelter homes.
To know the perception about the shelter homes
To know what kind of feasibilities and hardships are there to them

CULTURAL IMPACT
In west it may not be so heart rending for their children. It is their original life style that two generations never stay under one roof. Aging is inevitable, but aging gracefully is in your hands.
Being the Muslims it is not the part of our culture indeed there are still many an existing families those who are having such attitudes towards the parents. The norms, believes, ethics of being Muslims doesn’t support this culture but due to some of the social class issues they are now making trends toward these shelter homes.
Every human being having reached old age needs more service and care. The society must not ignore the rights of senior members.

ALLAH (S.T) said: “And lower to them shoulders with humility and meekness and say my Lord have mercy upon them (both) as they brought me up when I was little”

INFORMATION
Well talking about the shelter homes there are many a things that refers towards them, many a situations and also the circumstances. There are several ways to get to them in Pakistan many big names are working on it and are running this business with a great return. One can find these shelters homes by different means and regards.
Internet
Personal Interviews
Books
Television/Radio
Newspaper/Magazine
Focus Groups
Some people prefer to ask their friends, social circle and many more around them or the focus group about these shelter homes. But mostly they prefer to consult internet.

SATISFACTION
Consumer Satisfaction can be defined as:
A degree of person's satisfaction about a product or services, which fulfilled his expected requirements and exceeded his expectations regarding the product's or the services performance.
When it comes to customer satisfaction, it all comes down to perception. How the consumer (old age group) sees and experiences the product and service provided by your business. It’s not what you believe or thinks not what your studies or focus groups tell you, but what you’re actual consumers feel, experience, and say. So your bottom-line, financial results are tied to consumer satisfaction and quality. In return, quality is measured along two dimensions, the physical and the performance that is being provided by the shelter homes.

Research Method
Methods use to conduct a research are known as methods of research, which are of two types:
i. Quantitative Research ii. Qualitative Research

Quantitative Research
The research in which numerical, statistical or mathematical data is used is known as quantitative research. Like assigning numbers from agreement to disagreement.

Qualitative Research
Qualitative research is a research in which direct questions are asked instead of numerical questions. Like what consumer is thinking about nutrition factors of a certain product.
In this project we use data Quantitative Research method.

Tools used for data collection Data is collected with the help of different tools which are listed below:
i. Questionnaires ii. Interviews iii. Case studies iv. Personal observations
We use Questionnaires to collect data in this project

Questionnaires
It is a Performa in which questions are written, with the choice of answers.
Our questionnaires have three parts, described below;
i. Demographics information questions ii. Shelter preference questions iii. Perception about shelter homes

Number of questionnaires are 20 which represent the samples of 100% population. Most of our questions are based on Likert Scale.
Sampling
Sampling means selection of people for research from population. You can select people randomly or sequentially. There are two type of sampling:
i. Probability sample ii. Non probability sample
Probability sampling (simple random sampling) was done in this project. Sample is taken from two shelter homes.

Sample Profile
Sample profile reflects the demographic characteristics of sample. Like age, mental level, lifestyle, education level, social class and cultures.
Demographics
Sample we select for survey has mostly middle class people of old age. Their life is high compare to scrap into the perception of their families. Even many of them are very much willing to support the family but due to age factors and most of them are status symbol issues. Most of them are local and some are migrated.
Findings
After conducting research we have following results
Gender
Male 60% Female 40%

Education
Literate 30%
Illiterate 70% Monthly Income
Less than Rs. 10,000 60%
Rs. 25,001-50,000 30%
And above 10% Family access Yes 40% No 60% Information about shelter homes Internet 50% Personal Sources 24% Multi sources 26%

How often they meet family member Never 44% Frequently 26% Rare 30%

Analysis
The collected data was entered in a data base i.e. we analyzed the date by using statistical percentage.

Information from Primary data:
The data collected by the working for shelter homes we have summarized all the questioner in such a way one can easily judge that why the no of people in shelter homes are growing day by day.
From the bird’s eye view we calculated that there are 60% men and 40% women in shelter homes. Among those 30% are literate under the literacy definition standard of Pakistan. that tey can read and write their names and lest of them 70% are like blank pages.
Further details:
Well talking to them in a very open manner we found that a number of people more than 60% approximately don’t have any access to their families and are living here like have no one left behind. The remaining are also the victims but rarely their family visits to them.
As we meet them we found there are some social issues and are some of ethical issues faced by their family that they are shifted here or moved to such places.
Telling us openly they have the homes and have all the necessaries of life but still they are among those who don’t have homes at all. Some case are like people with no children getting old and the family made them the victims and grab or get hold to the property and sent them to these places where they never wished to be.
Results from Questionnaires:
As we have mentioned earlier that we had conducted the survey among some of the known shelter homes. The information we brought forward for you is typically arranged under the percentages and statistical data. Which surly can make anyone to realize and to grab the situation of the consumer of these shelter homes?
Family interaction:
After having some chit chat to the people we realized most of them are terribly stringed by the family. And never wanted to go back even the circumstances are not feasible. Most of them have the issues that no one came to see them and no one bothered them. They feel like they were never being the part of family.

Environmental and Living standards:
Round most of them are not truly satisfied with the environmental facilities they are provided here are mall functioning and most likely can’t not be digested easily. Some are also having issues in the living standards of the shelter homes because of the mental and physical satisfaction they are bound to be live like the way they are no further enhancements are made regarding.
Family Background:
The recent survey shows that a number of people living here are from the well settled families not from the middle class family of they are from very much poor houses. The reason behind them is the rich can’t afford the old people because they feel like they are the burden to them and those from the poor families but there is least number of people who are from the middle class families. “Poor people are more generous than others” (Anonymous)
Food facilities:
The food facilities that are being provided to them are not hygienic and mall nutrition issues are there among them. Though they are being provided with the food on time and three times a day followed by some fruits and desert as well but still the food evaluation is being unsatisfactory and not under proper measures.
Organization Commitments:
If we talk about the organizational commitment that have been made to them by the shelter homes we found that the residents of the shelter homes even have issues with the commitments regarding the terms they are settled for to the people. Mainly the issues are funding to such organizations they are working on and other are there is no proper management to look after the issues faced to the consumers.
Simile like Own homes:
In the mid we had found that the people living here are used to with the environment of the shelter home that they don’t need to go back among the people we asked there are 70% of the people who stick to live here rather to go back.

Complexities and Adjustments:
Every person whenever moves to new places have some issues and most likely one should have such issues. Because the human are social not the rational ones so at the beginning they found many a issues to adjust but after they made adjustment to the place we found that they are happy here and are well aware of each other needs, wants and demands.
Family support:
Most of them are the victims of their own families and some of them have interaction with them, some are having generous family unlike the others and are well aware of it.
Extract sows that the families do support somehow to them even they are no more a part of their beautiful life. But still we found normally a small number of group find the gifts, garments and much more. Unfortunately a large number og people rarely found the names of their loved ones on the gift packs and a huge number who are unaware of them.

Years ago family would care for the elderly once they reached a point in their lives when they needed additional assistance and care and became unable to care for themselves. Facilities were used mainly for elderly people, those who were mentally ill, or those who were poor and had no place to go. Today long-term care facilities are used for individuals of any age, in any financial class who need professional help in performing their ADLs (activities of daily living) for a longer length of time than a hospital is able to provide. Many times these facilities are used as rehabilitation facilities where people can go for strengthening and assistance in order to reach their ultimate goal of returning to home.…

“I fear the day that technology will surpass our human interaction. Technology censors the freedom of human thought and most people will conform to match the society, in most cases without even knowing. Changes in policies to deal with the issue of homelessness are constructed into the way society is structured. Homelessness is a prime concern of some major policies. Broad range of definitions has been used to classify the people in homeless category under relative categorization of poverty. Change in classification criteria has increased the number of people who are viewed as homeless. This requires reassessment of criteria to define the people who need to be viewed in homelessness category. Homeless people are classified based on the access to proper housing, low-cost housing construction policies, and the quantity of funds given to them (Borchard, Kurt, 2005). To classify people under these factorial dimensions is a divisive task. All sociologists agree that homelessness is a social problem in need of a remedy. Assessment on the basis of these dimensions does not define clear path of resources allocation, funding, and services to be given to control problem (Borchard, Kurt, 2005).…

In conclusion one can clearly see long term housing is far more successful than shelters. Long-term housing is less expensive, and the families have something of their own, something they do not have to share. Plus one of the options, housing first, puts the individuals in support groups so they can get help. Overall long-term housing provides many great opportunities for homeless individuals but in order to take full advantage of this situation America should put more long-term housing in…

The question “Are there homeless in China?” is not what this paper is going to be about. China will be discussed because I want to show the ways in which their government is taking action for the amount of homeless people living in the streets.
