Servant Leadership Self Analysis
I am going to commit to role playing at least once a week with peers so that I master this weakness. I can’t grow as an effective leader if I am not able to have crucial conversations with employees. The domino effect from not having those conversations could in fact be detrimental to the employee and the company. To ensure I actually follow through with this, I will schedule time on my calendar with peers to practice.
As a servant leader, it’s in my nature to make sure people feel cared for and their needs are meet. Unfortunately, employees try to use this type of leadership to their advantage by attempting to manipulate situations or me in order to get what they want. I tend to see the good in people and want to help those when they ask

“Humility is the ‘primary building block of moral & spiritual leadership’ (Northouse, 2013, pg. 432). “Humility is the road that leads to being formed into the image of God” (Bekker, undated, pg. 3). This is deeply rooted in the servant leadership of Jesus Christ (Mark 10:45 NLT). A servant leader who “teaches that the path of humility, sacrifice, and people centered deeds (that seek the best interest of followers) accomplishes godly ends for leaders” (Ayers, 2006, pg.24). “It expresses the need for leaders to align their agendas with God’s and play their part in His divine history through leadership that reflects Jesus” (Ayers, 2006, pg.24). The inspiration for this combination of God’s Word and servant leadership comes from interactions…

As employees we have all felt the differences between respect amongst our co-workers. This can be real or imagined but nearly all of us, at some time, have felt this emotion. This mostly occurs when management puts forth an heir of self-importance or simply treats its employees indifferently(Pierce & Newstrom, 2011, p. 118). This benign treatment of employees lowers morale, causes poor work performance, and can cause internal strife within a business(Pierce & Newstrom, 2011, p. 118). It should be avoided at all costs as to better the company.…

This usually takes things from bad to worse. Some strategies I plan to do to improve this weakness include counting to ten and leaving the room. Also taking a few seconds to realize how it doesn’t only affect me but many others as well. Many of my siblings look up to as an example. If I am quick to get angry I will be a bad influence towards them and many others that they could possibly affect later on. Planning to take action on this weakness will further better my personal life and professional life in a work environment and more importantly a school…

Fundamentally, servant leadership entails leaders being servants first. It starts off with a natural feeling that one wants to serve, and goes beyond one’s self interest, where leaders are genuinely concerned about serving their followers. Further, it also involves leaders not using their power to get things done but instead try to persuade and convince their followers. In this way, followers support their leaders and are motivated to become the very best they can become (Dierendonck, 2011). Indeed, servant leaders do care about the development of their employees and even share power.…

The over-arcing theme for each of the leader’s view of servant leadership is that servant leadership is about getting the focus off self and into a focus on stewardship through guidance, with attention, intention, awareness – of self and others – with a large dose of serving versus being served as a leader.…

We all have the choice to lead or not. So the question becomes: Why does someone choose to lead? I believe the answer is, fundamentally, that they believe strongly enough in something that they want to take action and are willing to take on the responsibility of being a leader. Such is the case for me with regards to teaching. When I was young I simply wanted to be led. As I matured, however, opportunities to assume leadership roles presented themselves and, with support from my peers and mentors, I found myself taking them on and have grown to enjoy being a leader and helping those around me succeed.…

Throughout high school I have been blessed with the opportunity to experience positions of leadership. As taking roles as both a follower and a leader in democratic groups such as football, student council, and especially marching band I have learned the significance and dedication of servant-leadership. I am honored to have been given the position to be drum major during my junior and senior so I could strive to enrich the extraordinary experiences music has to offer to fellow peers. Through an attitude of servant-leadership, perseverance and passion I have been privileged. Hence, I dedicated and invested myself in a program that has blessed me with several breath-taking experiences that opened my eyes to a new perspective on the world and on what my destiny holds.…
