Servant Leadership Application Essay
Throughout high school I have been blessed with the opportunity to experience positions of leadership. As taking roles as both a follower and a leader in democratic groups such as football, student council, and especially marching band I have learned the significance and dedication of servant-leadership. I am honored to have been given the position to be drum major during my junior and senior so I could strive to enrich the extraordinary experiences music has to offer to fellow peers. Through an attitude of servant-leadership, perseverance and passion I have been privileged. Hence, I dedicated and invested myself in a program that has blessed me with several breath-taking experiences that opened my eyes to a new perspective on the world and on what my destiny holds.

For example, there were numerous of instances where I had to really escape the desires regarding my life in order to assist the needs of others in the band. Because of constant help towards others my eyes were open to the importance of service to fellow brothers and sisters. I take great pleasure in the time and ability I am given to serve others. Service comes in various forms and I strongly believe that no act is too small to be of big help. Serving others is vital in my life because I am enlightened to pause on my own worries in order to care and act for groups, causes, and people who are in need. In band I grew a nature of complete advocacy to help others for their positive benefit. With experience I learned that taking concern for others and spending time with them is a long process yet it is filled with several rewards. Service truly displays my need to help others, rather than selfishly focusing on my own desired

Lori, I truly enjoyed your interview response on Reverend Jennifer Beagle. I can agree with her statement on developing a ministry, “It’s a battle worth fighting, suit-up, buckle-up, and don’t doubt that God is in everything. Find God in every circumstance and view people as creations”. (Beagle, 2015) Just as the varying parts of the human body need each other to best accomplish its work, so the Body of Christ needs to function interdependently, like a team. (Rom. 12:4-8; 1 Cor. 12:12-27) God so designed the Church that it "grows and builds itself up in love, as each part does its work". (Eph. 4:16) Christian leaders are servants. Jesus specifically addresses servant leadership…

In the classroom, I’m a student; outside, I am a leader. These qualities of a leader reside in the role of a drum major.…

When one hears the term servant, it is usually associated with the Bible since it clearly indicates that all Disciples of Christ or believers are servants. Servant is defined as “a person working in the service of another”. When Robert K. Greenleaf first defined the phrase “Servant Leadership” he pointed out that the difference between it and leader was “a servant aspiring to serve and taking up leadership as result” (Greenleaf, 1977). Leader is defined as a person who rules or guides or inspires others. Being considered as a servant first, a servant leader’s priority is to lead in a way that they are serving others by developing them as well as giving their undivided attention to their colleagues and those they serve (Spears, 1998). Taking into consideration Greenleaf’s characteristics of servant leadership and the Biblical doctrine as well other philosophies, we will explore the idea that the Servant Leadership is “compatible with most religions and theories of philosophy.”…

Over the summer of my sophomore year, I applied and interviewed for the President of Indiana FFA State Band. As it turned out, that position was my motivation for continuing to push myself to improve. Once I walked out of the interview and my friend, mentor, and president of the Indiana FFA State Band congratulated me on being selected to serve as the state band president. This office, which I currently have the honor to hold, provided me with more opportunities than I could ever imagine. Being the state band president allowed me to counsel…

I have nurtured their growth as both musicians and people. I have watched them continue to enjoy music and become leaders among their peers well past the time in my classroom. As students have graduated from Fort Osage, many have come back to our district and have enrolled their own children into the Beginning Band. Other graduates are now teaching music at high schools and universities. My greatest teaching accomplishment is the legacy of my teaching living on through these students. I have instilled in them the belief that regardless of their circumstances, they can be successful and make a difference in this…

A leader sets an example in rehearsals and performances, and that means to lead by example. During and after school, a leader should be deferential and respectful to their peers. This is especially important off campus, whether with the band or individually, because one is representing Clark Band. A leader should be known as dependable, admirable, honest, responsible, and much more. I understand many people want to contribute this, but I would be a better asset because I have many goals for this year, and a lot of motivating for meeting them.…

As my band director pointed out to us at the end of band camp, you do not spend an entire week at your school, in extremely hot weather for nine hours a day if you do not love band. This band has taught me what it is like to be dedicated; and to spend hours at home and school practicing music; running drill set by set, countless times. Even when you get more into my specific section, percussion, you realize that we have to learn more music and cadences than any other section. This band taught me how to be dedicated to something, even when it seems to be too much at times and to honor my…

Servant Leadership In considering my emergent leadership style, I believe I have the hallmarks of a servant leader. I see the need of building relationships within the school community, as well as within the school site, that will result in networking and fostering a relationship-focused workplace. I believe in empowering my contemporaries, to support their endeavors as we move into uncharted territory with new Common Core state standards. I am an emerging leader in that I now see myself in a developing role of assisting other teachers in understanding CCSS.…
