In considering my emergent leadership style, I believe I have the hallmarks of a servant leader. I see the need of building relationships within the school community, as well as within the school site, that will result in networking and fostering a relationship-focused workplace. I believe in empowering my contemporaries, to support their endeavors as we move into uncharted territory with new Common Core state standards. I am an emerging leader in that I now see myself in a developing role of assisting other teachers in understanding CCSS. Technology only adds to an ever increasing solitary work environment and feelings of teacher isolation. Online classes and confusing functional documents outlining new procedures connected to the Common Core can cause trepidation. Servant leadership to me is about the empowerment of colleagues in an effort to support positive organizational outcomes. I do believe that all employees in a school district have the ability to serve, but most lack the support and belief in themselves they need to step up and have a voice. By fostering loyalty through collegial interactions, engaging my cohorts in professional dialog and supporting shared beliefs I am developing the skills that will promote constructive organizational effects. I have begun to play a significant part in the development of employee skills as a teacher trainer in the implementation of Common Core Standards in classrooms. I have increased my engagement in the school community by taking part in Union activities and endorsing the benefits of how CCSS can assist all students with reaching higher levels of actualization. It is important to me that an effort is made to educate and inform teachers, students and counselors about the merits of
