There real gems are their hard-working employees. As of today they have over 200 employees and still growing. With almost 1 million intricately made candles produced yearly, Deco Candles is a strong player in the European and American candle market. They have a large R&D with dedicated workers who each have over 15 years’ experience in the field. This covers silicone-making, molding, painting, color mixing and technical supervision. Hanukkah represents festival of lights("Hanukkah: History | ReformJudaism.org"). This celebration is connected with the cleansing of the temple ("Hanukkah: History | ReformJudaism.org"). Hanukkah takes place on the first sunday of December . Originally Jews celebrate Hanukkah as a national holiday, not a religious holiday ("Hanukkah: History | ReformJudaism.org"). The eight candles when all of them are lit represent growing faith ("Hanukkah: History | ReformJudaism.org"). One candle is lit on the menorah per night.…

The experiment had lots of variables that could have affected the outcome. Luckily the variables were controlled. The independent variable was the number of candles. The dependent variable was the height of the water. Some other variables that were controlled were, that the same candles were used, that the same glass container was used, and that same base for the candles were used. When the experiment was done there were three replications.…

One religious practice associated with Hanukkah is the lighting of a single candle each of the eight nights of Hanukkah. “Each day, over an eight-day period, one more candle is lit on a nine-branched candelabrum-a special form of menorah-until, at the end of the festival, all are alight.” This practice is called the Lighting the Hanukkah Menorah. During the eight nights each member of the family gathers around the candles before lighting and recites a blessing. There are three blessings associated with Hanukkah. Two traditional blessings are recited each night and the third is a blessing of joy traditionally recited during all Jewish festivals, it is only recited the first time the Hanukkah menorah is lit. “Blessed are you, Lord our God, King of the universe, who has kept us alive, and has preserved us, and enabled us to reach this time” (Katz, 2011). The lighting of the candles is used to commemorate the miricale of the Maccebees’ victory. The traditional story says that oil burned for over eight days and it should have only lasted one day. Another tradition asscociated with Hanukkah is the giving of a small gift each night from parents to their childern. This practise differs from Christmas gift giving by focussing more on knowledge of the tradition. Childern are tested on history of Hanukkah, and if they could answer the questions correctly they would receive a gift as a reward. Typically the reward would…

    Camphor Reduction

Borneol (FIGURE-1), first reported and published in the Tang Bencao in 659 A.D., is often used in drug treatment, especially in Chinese drugs. It is helpful in opening obstruction of orifices, heat syndromes and pain releasing (Dharmananda). Nowadays artificially synthesized borneol, a mixture of borneol and isoborneol (FIGURE-2), becomes more popular than pure natural borneol because of the lower cost in drug production. However, isoborneol is more toxic than borneol and thus is not favored regarding the safety issue of drugs. But how can we synthesize borneol in a way that gives more borneol than toxic isoborneol? An experiment of making borneol from camphor (FIGURE-3) is performed in two different methods, Sodium Borohydride Reduction and Meerwein-Ponndorf-Verley Reduction, to compare the relative product ratio of borneol to isoborneol. The concept of reduction and also oxidation, the opposite procedure of reduction, deals mostly with electron transfer between atoms. It will not be elaborated here, but the reduction procedure involved in this experiment is basically adding hydrogens and losing the carbon-oxygen double bond. (See FIGURE-4)…

There are several noteworthy symbols in this story. To begin with there is the thirteenth child. Thirteen has been for centuries marked as an unlucky number. Dating back to biblical times at the last supper, where twelve disciples and Jesus sat down to eat and Judas arose to betray Jesus (Guiley). Only twelve were bonded. Judas, because he betrayed Jesus represented sin, rebellion, and subsequently the number thirteen (Elev8). The father may have been stricken with…
