Scarlet Tempernel Research Paper
The Scarlet Pimpernel is an annual herbaceous plant often considered a weed that reaches a height of 3-10cm, the semi prostrate stems spreading up to 40cm. Scarlet Pimpernel is often found growing in sandy soils, although it has been known to grow on clay based soil, grows in gardens, roadsides, waste ground, common land, pasture, and long rural driveways (It grows in the mile-long gravel drive close to the stables at my friend’s house). The highly branched square stems bear opposite sessile ovate to elliptic bright green leaves, glabrous to pubescent on the dorsal surface, densely pubescent with a prominent parallel venous system, and glandular-punctate (darkly spotted) on the ventral surface. The margins of each leaf are densely ciliate

White Bird-of-Paradise is most often planted for its large, banana-like leaves and upright, clumping stalks which give an exotic feel to the landscape (Fig. 1). Plants can reach 20 to 30 feet in height with a spread of 10 feet though they are often seen much smaller. The five to eight-foot-long, cold-tender leaves are arranged in a fanlike display from the erect trunks and appear much like Traveler’s-Tree. The lower trunk becomes clear of leaves and exposed as the older leaves drop off. Leaves rip along the veins as they are blown by strong winds.…
