Mr. Mitchell, I am writing you as a citizen of Sanger, and as a Registered Nurse currently pursuing a BSN through the University of Phoenix. I believe that we share a common interest in improving the state of our community. I have looked into your personal website and have seen that you have a great interest eradicating gang activity and hunger in our community of Sanger. I commend you for bringing in extra police forces from nearby cities to combat gangs. I also see your involvement in the many community food drives and frequently bringing in the Community Food Bank into Sanger to provide free food for our citizens in need of food assistance. We must continue to push our legislature to pass bills that will create new standards for school lunches. Providing healthier choices for children would be a step closer to President Obama’s goal of ending childhood hunger by 2015. These issues are also being pushed by First Lady Michelle Obama to reduce childhood obesity (Congress takes aim at unhealthy school lunches 2010). Our street festivals should include meals that are lower in fat and calories, invite vendors that promote health, and the activities should be those that get people to move, such as music and dancing and games for the kids. By providing safe parks and the sense of security for our citizens we promote health within our community. The members of the community must also take a stand for this city, churches, clubs, and neighborhoods need to ban together to encourage each other to be healthy, the community neighborhood watch program must once again be a vital part of keeping this community safe. The members of these groups need to get together and organize activities on a weekly basis that encourage activity; meetings should be walking meetings, rather than round table meetings with
