Rose Rosenfeld Freedman Essay
Rose Rosenfeld Freedman was born March 27, 1893 in Vienna (Wien), Austria. Her and her family moved to a small apartment in New York. At 16, her sister Molly suggested that instead of helping around the house, she should get an actual job. Rose got a job at the local Triangle Waist Company on the 9th floor of the Asch Building. Her job was to operate a button-attaching machine. Just almost 2 years later, Rose was two days away from turning 18 on March 25, 1911. Rose was working on the 9th floor as usual when the fire broke out at 4:40 pm.

Considering Rose was on the 9th floor she rushed to the 10th to the executive offices where she took a smoldering staircase to the roof. From there, a fireman helped her onto the nearby building’s roof. As she walked down to the street, she stopped at each stoop to cry. ''Girls in shirtwaists, which were aflame, went flying out of the building so that you saw these young women literally ablaze flying out of the windows,'' she said in a Public Broadcasting System

You couldn’t be older than 50 though. Rose had a rather youthful appearance that helped her get this job. "Of course it was a lie, but they didn't know it was a lie,". She worked here until 79. Then in 1995 she moved to Los Angeles to be near her children. A few short years later, Rose said in a documentary "To me, 106 is a number,", and "I lived that long, not only on account of my genes, but on account of my attitude. You've got to stand up for yourself. Am I right?".

Rose Freedman died February 15, 2001 in Los Angeles at 107. Overall Rose was a real trooper. She made it through one of the most tragic events in history, killing 146 people. She also lived to see and hear about WWI and WWII. By the time she passed, she had mastered 7 languages and was still taking classes for Spanish. I guess you could say Rose Freedman had a tragic, cursed life, or you could say she had a courageous, eventful

“Rapunzel’s life turned around the day a prince climbed up her hair and into her stairless tower” (Weitz). Rose Weitz talk of things women do for love, and believe it or not, hair is actually a big factor in how women live their lives. When I first started reading this I thought how bizarre this was, and how on earth do women use their hair to get what they want. Then I just realized, before I even sat down to start reading this essay, my boyfriend was in the room. Funny thing is I was playing with my hair deciding what would look cute to him while I do my homework. My hair is finally starting to grow longer so I wore it down and straight to accentuate it. After twenty minutes of playing around with my hair, to his interest, my boyfriend did not even notice me, that is when I thought to myself, what a waste.…

“Therefore, all the telephone calls from the wives were the frantic and portentous beating of the wings of the death angels, as it were. When the final news came, there would be a ring at the front door—a wife in this situation finds herself staring at the front door as if she no longer owns it or controls it—and outside the door would be a man … come to inform her that unfortunately something has happened out there, and her husband's body now lies incinerated in the swamps or the pines or the palmetto grass, "burned beyond recognition," which anyone who had been around an air base for very long (fortunately Jane had not) realized was quite an artful euphemism to describe a human body that now looked like an enormous fowl that has burned up in a stove, burned a blackish brown all over, greasy and blistered, fried, in a word, with not only the entire face and all the hair and the ears burned off, not to mention all the clothing, but also…

Rose introduced one girl named Evangeline where she talks about how easy it is for her to keep track of people lives because there’s not a lot. She mention about how people don’t know when they miss home until they actually left home and go back again and that it has a certain smell that only they are familiar with. When students went back to teach at their old school, people would look at them with sort of a surprised expression because time had past by to the point where the students becomes the teacher, yet the teachers who taught those kids are still there teaching and they no longer have the student-teacher relationship but co-workers.…

“The challenge isn’t to read white or read black; it is to read. If Phillis Wheatley stood for anything, it was the creed that culture was, could be, the equal possession of all humanity.” In this quote Henry Gates explains that people criticizing the work of Wheatley are missing the whole point of her work. The bias critics only see a black slave who should not be writing the way she is writing. Her critics overlook the beauty and the amount that her poems inspire people of all color. Throughout Phillis Wheatley’s works she expresses herself and in doing so she writes her way to freedom and becomes the first African American to publish a book of poems in English. Henry Gates is on point when saying that Phillis Wheatley believed in the equality of all people. Wheatley shows her desire for equality by her word choices, faith, and personality.…

Not unlike most teenagers, Rose exhibits rebellious and courageous behavior in the narrative, as well as thoughts of maturity and loss of innocence, all of which contributes to form her unique personal identity. At the beginning of the story when Flo warns Rose of the dangers in Toronto, such as the white slavers who would drug and rape young girls, Rose expresses her distrust towards Flo’s words. “She [does] not believe anything Flo says on the subject of sex.”(12) When Flo goes on to recount stories of a perverted undertaker who rapes women on his hearse, Rose thinks, “All nonsense. Who could believe it, of a man that age?” (13) It is clear at this point that although Rose respects Flo, Rose holds a far more optimistic and carefree attitude towards the idea of sex and has more faith in the integrity of the society. Rose’s choice in travelling to Toronto alone for the first time also demonstrates her trust in the society and her courage, believing that she will be safe; this faith forms part of her personal identity.…

Growing up I was the oldest child my parents had. The majority of that time typically ages 1-4 I barely even remember. . So with that being said I was an only child for 6 years. I recall that for those earlier stages of my life my grandmother raised me and therefore I would call her my first teacher. That’s why my oldest memory’s or literacy artifact was when my grandmother used to have me watch the Magic School Bus. The Magic School Bus is a Canadian/American Saturday morning animated children's television series, based on the book series of the same name by Joanna Cole and illustrated by Bruce Degen. It is notable for combining entertainment with an educational series. I absolutely loved this show, not even realizing at the time, that it was educational.…
