Roles and responsibilities of Officials
Team Sport-Rounders
The roles of rounders umpires are to make sure the game is played fairly and rules are being followed.
It is also down to them to decide if a player is out (for example-stumped out before the batter makes contact).
They must also decide how many points were scored from a hit and keep track how many each team scored overall.
The umpires are often responsible for pitch safety (for example- making sure the pitch is clear to play on)
They are also responsible for making sure the equipment is of a good enough standard to use. This also counts during the game
Individual sport-Tennis
The role of a tennis umpire is mostly to check to see where the ball lands(in or out).
They must also check that players comply with rules and do not perform foot faults.
They are responsible for making sure each players equipment is good enough to play with. (although players check the tension in their rackets before play).
They must also keep tally of the scores.
*Lots of the roles of tennis umpires are not actually carried out by umpires in more important games, as mentioned above the players check some of their equipment.
