Risks Of Texting While Driving
We the all the technology of the twenty-first century, and people start to have a bad habit; one of the riskiest habits is texting while driving. According to the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), almost eleven percent of people in the United States had texted while driving in 2008. The government of Texas should stop people who drive while texting because it can be dangerous and many serious risks like injury or death. Texting while driving can cause an accident because the driver is attention is on the phone not on the road. Having an accident can affect the individual by causing someone death. Every year, more than one and a half death cases in the United States that because of texting while driving.

    First of all, distraction is one of the major causes leading to accidents. From the moment of picking up the phone, to read a text, to the moment it is being put back down, there is a loss of sight from the road which could either result in a life threatening accident, or a lucky escape from a life threatening accident. A Nationwide survey has shown that 45 percent of Americans said they've either been hit or nearly hit by a driver on a cell phone (Saletan 2). It is a split second of loss of focus on the road that could cost someone their life. Texting while driving makes people lose vision from the road and makes them forget what is going on around them, and that is what makes it so dangerous. One study showed that “the more tasks you dump on drivers—listening, evaluating, answering questions—the worse they perform. They drift off course, miss cues, overlook hazards, and react slowly. It's the picture of a mind being sucked from one world into another”(Saletan 2).     After reading and analyzing the journals and articles, I now realize the serious consequences and problems that texting while driving, and driving underage can cause. There are many dangers that come with texting while driving that never occur to the people performing the action. "Nearly 5500 people were killed in distracted driving accidents in 2009, the Department of Transportation found." While most might believe that drunk driving is the culprit to most unforced accidents, they may not be educated enough to know that texting and driving is just as bad.
