1. May we dig a trench across the city street shown in this lab?
Yes as long as the appropriate regulations are followed.
2. Who issues the permit for this work?
The department of Engineering services section 15-24
3. Must we submit construction plans to the city?
Yes we must submit 2 plans with an application, traffic control plan and trench safety plan as well.
4. Once the permit is issued, how long must we wait before commencing work?
48 hours must be given before commencing work to the DOE so an inspector may be assigned.
5. How deep must the cable be buried?
The cable must be at least 24inch to 42inch depending on the traffic weight on that specific road.
6. What are the exact detailed compaction requirements as listed in the manual provided by the city for restoration of any surface that is trenched?
The exact detail compaction requirements in the manual are, Lifts of loose depth not exceeding 8inch compacted at least 95% of standard proctor density at optimum 2% percent points by ASTM D698. Flow able backfill material may be used specification of compression strength of 1500 PSI and give 24 hour prior to backfill to inspector.
7. Is the company we hire to do the work required to be registered in any way?
Yes they must be registered as certified telecommunication provider under chapter 283. Certified of convenience and necessity authorized by chapter 13, have a franchise or license agreement with the city, inter local agreement or otherwise permitted by state law to operate facilities with in public rights of way.

Interference with traffic is allowed between 8:30am to 4:30pm and 6:00pm till 10:00pm Mon-Fri
