Rewarding Volunteers
1. Analyze the causes of the problem with understaffing at the Online University.
In reading the cause of the issue, it is clear that the university did not hire someone who was qualified to handle a leadership position. Being a leader is so much more than demanding someone to complete task but it is about communicating effectively and making sure that everyone is a team player. As we see, there was no team playing going on with the university. It is a major problem when someone who is appointed the leader is not capable or willing to do their job properly because then it makes it hard for those working under he/she at the university.
By being understaffed, the university is not able to function as they should because they do not have the right individuals to cover all the tasks that are needed. With any job, there are individuals appointed to different departments in which they are qualified to work on. When there is no one able to work in that department, it either gets shut down or they find someone who has similar qualifications until they are able to find an individual. What does this mean? This means that the individual is going to have more than one job performance and only receive the pay for whichever position they were working for beforehand.
The university is trying to continue to function but without the proper staff, it does make things hard for them to do and even though it is online, there are still individuals who need to have student support and other things that a university gives. Without having these functions, the university can lose students and money which is going to put them at a financial risk. Sometimes if the financial responsibility is not met through the school then they can lose their accreditation and they will either have to close or find another way to function.
2. Discuss the importance of a compatible leadership style to motivate and manage a volunteer staff.
A leader is defined as “the person who leads or commands a

Through JROTC, I have learned many skills that help me with my previous and current service to others. Lesson 2 of Chapter 4 covers performance indicators and values a leader should maintain. The lesson describes values such as duty and respect in detail. Fulfilling obligations, carrying out mission requirements, meeting professional standards, and setting the example are all the duty of a leader. With my volunteer work, I fulfill my obligation to show up to events on time, and clean before and after my work. I carry out the mission of twisting balloons and face painting for people who wish for a balloon or painted face. Profession standards are a requirement, not only for me as a leader, but also for the organization as a whole. The organization maintains a certain reputation within the community, so it is essential for organization members to act in a way that is appropriate to the circumstances and provide a professional setting for the “client.” Setting the example with a positive behavior is crucial so that children and their parents feel welcome to come once more. A leader respects other people, treating them accordingly, which is a given, regardless of whether an individual is in a leadership position or not. They give others equal and fair opportunities and show concern for the safety and wellbeing of others and are tactful and discreet when correcting or questioning…

I am spending my time volunteering at St. Marks United Methodist Church (St. Marks UMC). This church is an open community, working to create a comfortable atmosphere for anyone and everyone in and around the area. I work specifically with the youth of the church and I reach out to students who are my age or younger than me. I have been volunteering at St. Marks for almost four years, assisting in many different groups and organizations sponsored by our church. I volunteer at this church because it has given me an opportunity to be myself, explore talents, and make strong connections, and I want to help continue this effort and reach out to kids who are struggling with a lot of the same difficulties I faced. I believe that volunteering here is a great experience for someone studying psychology because you meet and get to know many kids who are facing various issues in their lives.…

Donating, giving, and sharing are three related values that the majority of households in America all claim to practice and believe in. If this is true, then why is it so often that charities are underfunded? The problem is that many people seek happiness for themselves over the happiness of others. I believe that this is natural in human beings. When we are already so busy taking care of ourselves, I think we forget that other people could use a hand as well. Another underlying factor may be that many of us are not raised around charity. Instead of volunteering at shelters, America’s youth is often found at sports practices or at home fidgeting with technology, and until recently, I was no different.…
