English I Research Paper # 3:

Student Name: ____________________________ Student Number: _________
Date: ____________ Grade Value: ____________ Student Grade: ___________

Writing research papers is a critical component of English I. To be effective, there are established academic requirements that must be adhered to if a student is to be successful. Please refer to the attached rubric to gain an understanding of how your essay will be evaluated.
Each research paper is worth 10% each. Each research paper should be a minimum of 3-5 pages, 12 Times New Roman font, double-spaced, and include a bibliography (MLA Style) if external sources are used. A cover page is not necessary. All papers should be typewritten. Before handing in the final copy, please re-read the assignment question to be sure that you fully understand what is expected of you.
Use the following checklist to ensure the research paper is complete. Is my thesis concise and clear? Are my arguments presented in a logical sequence? Are all my sources properly cited to ensure that I am not plagiarizing? Have I proved my thesis with strong supporting arguments? Have I made my points clear in the essay?
In terms of writing, does each paragraph begin with a proper topic sentence? End with a concluding sentence? Have I supported my arguments with documented proof or evidence? Are there run-on, repetitive or unfinished sentences? Clichés? Varying lengths of sentences? Is my response written in third person? Are my arguments and supporting evidence presented from an objective perspective? Does one paragraph or idea flow from one paragraph into another? Is there a well-written introduction that includes a thesis statement? Is there a logical comprehensive conclusion that summarizes the points made in the essay?
Proofread your final paper carefully for spelling, punctuation, grammar, repetition, missing or duplicated words. Aim to have your final paper ready a day or two ahead of the deadline. This
