Research Paper On Drum Major
To begin my paper, I would like to thank you for considering me. It is not often a to-be sophomore puts as much effort into this as I have, and if it were not for the support of you, Joseph, Jay, Reese, and Stewie, I don’t think I would be anywhere near prepared enough to be a drum major. Today, however, I am ready, and now I just have to prove it to you. To explain where my inspiration for being drum major came from, I have to tell a story. I told this story in short during my section leader audition, but it is an honest reason (amongst multiple) I am so interested in being a drum major today. It goes back to my sixth grade, when I met Joshua Parmley. Josh was immediately friendly, and it was clear that he had leader-like qualities, as it …show more content…
There is the important question of, “What qualities makes you a worthy option over the others competing?” A good place to start is my devotedness to the band program. This year, I played in the following bands: Marching Band, Jazz Ensemble, Jazz Band, Winter Percussion, Wind Ensemble (occasionally). While I am obviously not the best in the school at my instruments, I definitely have a connection to the band program that few others have considering the amount of time I put into it. Another quality I would like to mention is my willingness to learn. I want the band program to excel next year, and I am up for any challenge that may come my way. That’s why I’m learning multiple different conducting styles (amongst other reasons), as I want to be able to adeptly conduct anything you choose for the band next year. I also have a lot of interest in conducting for everyday band classes, as, based off of the little experience I have conducting for Symphonic Band, it seems like a lot of fun. Thirdly, I have connections, particularly in the sense of getting volunteers to do any big projects that may arise. I happen to be a triplet, so let’s just say I know a large number of teenage boys who would be willing to come in early to set up for an event, move (or maybe even build) props, copy papers, etc. Any odd jobs that would take extra time to do, I and a few others of my choosing can do for you. Of course, there will always be

Once the time came to decide on who would conduct the finale, the choice was clear. The director saw my potential and inclination to achieve greatness during our rehearsals and chose me over many other talented individuals. Over the course of the next two months, I alone spearheaded every rehearsal, often spending hours a day in the band room providing both artistic and technical instruction to an ensemble of roughly 140 members. It was not until then that I had realized how difficult it was to convey artistic choices to such a large group of students effectively, but I eventually overcame the many obstacles that my lack of experience presented and skillfully conducted the finale at our concert. The piece received a standing ovation from the audience, but more importantly, a profound emotional response from many members of the audience that manifested as both tears and elated shouts. My director commented that it was the most efficient and successful finale piece he had ever seen. Similarly, I recently placed first in a district-wide audition between all the high school tenor saxophonists across multiple cities for entrance into a symphonic band. Unlike almost all musicians of my caliber, I have not had to rely on private lessons from professional…

My desire to be a part of the Tri-M Music Honor Society is driven by a passion for performing music. Four years ago, with very little experience under my belt regarding music, I joined the Dracut High School Marching Band, not knowing the difference between the xylophone and the marimba. Little did I know that playing and performing music for myself and others would lead to who I am as a person now.…

Marching band is analogous to a machine. All of the components must properly function in order to complete a certain task. Therefore, each member should possess dedication in order to produce a triumphant show and capture the audience’s attention. If one member fails, the whole organization collapses. Through these experiences, I learned that determination and dedication contributes to a successful lifestyle. Otherwise, dreams could never exist.…

As for character of what I would bring to the band, I am laid back and easy going but I can be very strict when I need to. Whenever we aren’t doing something I usually chat or goof off, but when it’s time to begin, it’s time to settle down, so I center my focus and get right to work trying to get everyone to fall into line. I am very dedicated to music and band so there wouldn’t have to be any worries with my responsibilities for the band. Also, I don’t play any sports or do anything besides choir and band all year with the exception of musical in the spring and diff and AP…

Influence, the capacity to have an effect on the character, development, or behavior of someone or something. There is a good chance that most of us have been influenced by someone or something throughout our lifetime. We all offer the ability to influence, and to be influenced. In 2011 when I joined my school's marching band, I did not realize the influence it would have on my life by teaching me teamwork, self-discipline, time management, and dedication.…

To be a drum major is to be a leader. Leaders take the time to go out of their way and stand up for what they believe in. Leaders take the initiative and set the standard for people to follow. To be a drum major for women, the first task is awareness. Anyone trying to get a point across must first make people aware of the problem and their cause for reaching out. The problem is that many women find themselves being stalked, file restraining orders, and still don’t get the justice they are searching for. Some women even change their whole identity to hide from their stalker in fear of getting hurt. To make people aware of this, one must take the initiative reach out to the common people. This might include going to churches, local meetings, or even starting my own organization to make people aware of the problem.…

Immediately wanting to join the band, I knew the only obstacle in my way would be convincing my parents. After all, neither one of them is musical in any way. At dinner that night, it was obvious that they were skeptical and not too keen on the idea of hearing the banging of a drum set in their home, but they ultimately gave me the chance to pursue this new-found passion. At that time, none of us could have imagined the impact that this decision would have on my life moving forward.…
