You’ve got a ticket in your hand- Where will you go? What will you do? What will happen when you get there? There are so many places and things you could do with one ticket. With a ticket in my hand I would choose to go to Barbuda. I have chosen Barbuda due to the conditions all the people on the island were left in after Hurricane Irma came and swept through. 95% of the buildings and homes on the island were destroyed and will cost around $100 million to fix everything. Barbuda is also in the path of Hurricane San Jose and the island is trying to flee the other 1,800 people that haven’t yet fled. Next I would find a place on the island that is safe to keep all of the people and families. Afterwards the volunteers and myself would provide the food, water, clothing, and toys to the families. Food and water are needed at a time like this. Clothing is needed as well to keep the families warm since their clothing has been destroyed. Last but not least some toys for the families with kids to give them something to do during this difficult time.
Leaving the island is hard for the people of Barbuda to do since it’s their home, and having to move a new location in which many have never been before is a drastic change for people. Unfortunately, these people don’t have much of a choice if they want to stay safe and have a home. With this being said, one of the final things I would do before returning home would be to make sure that everyone on the island has fled to a different country and is safe.
