Chapter 1
THE PROBLEM AND ITS BACKGROUND
This chapter presents the Introduction of the Study, the Background of the Study, Theoretical, Conceptual Framework, Statement of the Problem, Significance of the Study, Scope and Delimitation, and Definition of Terms.
Introduction
Drinking tea plays central part on our daily lives. Over thousands of years, tea has played a variety of roles on the world scene – in medicine, arts, culture, religion, especially as different variety of beverages, and others. It such a phenomenon with millions of people around the world are enjoying their tea on a daily basis. It is hard to imagine a world without tea. Today tea enjoys an unparalleled and enduring popularity. Many people most especially around Asia are fond in drinking of Tea. Milk tea or Bubble tea originated from Taiwan. After the successful marking a turning point for Taiwanese tea culture, they introduced the pearl milk tea in 1987.
Nowadays drinking milk tea is very common among people especially to the young adults that are studying, and even to employees. It’s actually already becoming a trend. It is great, that Filipinos are finally embracing the Milk Tea culture like many of our neighbour in Asian countries who are fond of drinking milk tea or tea products.
The researchers chose Malunggay leaves as their main component because of its nutritional values. The product that the researchers will experiment on, is Malunggay Milk tea because of the current popularity of this type of drink. Malunggay leaves was once considered a “poor man 's vegetable” but now it is known as a “miracle tree” by scientists and health care workers from around the world because it is loaded with vitamins and minerals that can be an effective remedy against many kinds of ailments.Now, Tea was considered as a popular drink. Milk Tea, who’s originated in Taiwan and now has already known around the world, thought of something new on how younger people should introduce Tea. This will make them

    This experiment was conducted in order to compare single and multiple extraction of caffeine from dried tea leaves and to calculate the percentage yield of caffeine for both extraction procedures. The group was assigned to do the multiple extraction. Before the extraction proper, the water bath containing the anhydrous sodium carbonate and distilled water was heated. As the sodium carbonate dissolves, tea leaves were added in the mixture and allowed to heat for ten minutes. Upon heating, the solution was extracted three times with the dichloromethane. The mixture resulted into to two layers with the upper layer being the aqueous solution while the lower contained the organic substance. After discarding the upper layer, the organic layer extracts were transferred into the Erlenmeyer flask containing the anhydrous sodium sulfate and was decant on a weighed evaporating dish under the hood. After which, it was evaporated to dryness. The residue was weighed and the percentage yield was calculated. The residue for this experiment weighed 1.75 grams. The percentage yield was computed by getting the quotient of the weight of the residue and the weight of the tea leaves, and multiplying the result to one hundred. The computed percentage…

    Caffeine extraction from the commercial tea leaves (Lipton Yellow Label Tea) that was done is multiple extraction. 4 tea bags were used in the experiment; tea leaves were weighed having 8.5333 grams. The leaves were boiled in a beaker with 150ml of water; the aqueous tea extract was transferred in a seperatory funnel mixed with DCM (20ml), done thrice. The DCM layer was washed with 20ml 6M NaOH in the seperatory funnel; the organic layer was dried with anhydrous Na2SO4. The dried organic layer turned into crude caffeine was purified in a sublimation set-up. A capillary tube was used to insert the pure caffeine to determine its melting point, having 228°C - 229°C. The purified caffeine from the sublimation set-up was weighed having 0.0007g; using the wt. of the sample and the wt. of the pure caffeine, the %yield was determined, 8.20 x 10 -3 %.…
