Relationship Between Critical Thinking And Crime Analysis
Critical thinking skills are important for crime analysts because it allows us to analyze and look at crime in a different way. The creative portion of critical thinking allows crime analysts to come up with new ways of analyzing crime. The argument portion of critical thinking allows us to defend and back up our analysis. Critical thinking allows crime analysts to solve problems of crime in different areas to bring about change and reduce future crime.
We need to be able "ask and answer" relevant questions in our field so we can effectively take initiative and analyze the crime problems that plague our given jurisdiction. We need to be knowledgeable on the subject so we can help direct law enforcement. The intelligence we gather and analyze aids us in crime deterrence …show more content…
Crime analysts use critical thinking skills on a daily basis. A real life situation when I used critical thinking skills was when fellow Analyst Taylor and I built an analysis on a sexual assault offender that was offending in a particular district. We pulled relevant crime data that fit the provided description of the sexual offender. We then used critical thinking skills to analyze and find a pattern in the offenses that the sexual offender committed. Eventually based on our analysis we created a product that could be used to inform the command staff and the division so they could address the
