Every healthcare organization should provide proof of accreditation. Accreditation assures any healthcare organization that the standards have been met and maintained. Joint Commission on The Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO) provides accreditation. JCAHO evaluates healthcare organizations that voluntary seek accreditation. JCAHO is made of individuals from the private sector that maintains standards in healthcare organizations in the United States (US Department of Health and Human Service, 2010). JCAHO was established in 1952 as a confidential not for profit organization. JCAHO performs periodic on site surveys to confirm that the healthcare organizations act in accordance with the standards, and also make efforts to advance the care, and services provided. JCAHO duty is to improve patient care. The key source of JACHO is to help hospitals in ensuring that employees meet the capability requirements. The structure of JCAHO works by responding to a voluntary call by the health care provider. Measures and indicators are used to evaluate the quality of care, afterwards the result of this evaluation is processed and the information is used to deny or approve the accreditation of the organization (Joint Commission Competency Program, 2011). JCAHO has many effects on the healthcare industry, by providing accreditation healthcare organizations have documented evidence that the standard of care has been complied with the healthcare organization requirements. JCAHO complies with primary goals, if these goals are not met accreditation will be denied. JCAHO carries out duties by responding to a voluntary request, or making an on site visit unannounced to a healthcare organization.
