Reasons To Be Banned In Public School
While being a part of English 12A I have gained the knowledge needed to become a better writer. Throughout this class punctuation, grammar, essay format, and sentence corrections have been covered. Furthermore, Newsela was very helpful and a great way to break down the information given. When the class started out I was struggling with the material. If it wasn’t for this class I would have failed my economics paper as well as many other assignments. While at times I thought this class was a “waste of time” and a “hassle” I'm glad that I had Mr.Smith to keep me in line and further my improvement.
With the many papers we have written about the current issues and events in the world I have grasped a better understanding of what these issues bring to society. Furthermore, “ The ba on Santa Claus” article was the most impactful to me. The fact that a traditional and fictional character is seen as something that should be banned in public schools was quite eye opening. Public school is a way to submerge students in different cultures and traditions if you ban characters that identify a difference in a culture then you are showing students that others traditions are “out of the norm”. Overall, the research papers have broadened my outlook on the issues

When you sit down to write a current issue paper you have to rip the “issues” apart and look at them from different perspectives you gather different thoughts on the issue consequently, this class has taught me how to look at things as others would. When we wrote about the “Obama pardons” I had to think about each pardon and clemency as President Obama was in order to grasp his perspective on the situations. Breaking down the outlook of others is something I never really did before when reading and writing. Furthermore, looking deeply into the thought process of others has been a great tool to gain and has allowed me to broaden my aspect on all

. I personally think, this will deter any violent, gun related incidents from occurring in the future. Writing three different types of papers helped me to improve my Rhetorical Knowledge. In my past I have written many research papers, however, I have little experience writing personal narratives or rhetorical analysis papers. This class gave me the opportunity to practice both forms of writing. I feel more confident writing a personal narrative or rhetorical analysis than I previously did. I also understand different rhetorical situations, which is critical in developing a strong paper.…

During my tenth grade year my English class always flowed smoothly. As a class we were never really required to do much more than babysit ourselves. There were countless days we sat in class and did simple worksheets on the book Night by Elie Wiesel which I had read in the eighth grade. Not realizing this was an English class it felt like kindergarten all over again. I had even considered it to be the best class period through my first two years of high school. It was chill, easy, and, comfortable. That comfortableness had not only crippled me but was what played a key part in my eleventh grade misery. That’s when it had all started.…

The banning of books in modern day school systems has been very controversial recently. Some believe that restricting a student’s right to read any desired book is almost as immoral as it was to restrict African American slaves the right to learn how to read or write. Frederick Douglass, a slave who was denied the right to an education, went against the beliefs of his slave owners, and eventually became a highly educated man who led the abolitionist movement and wrote many inspiring speeches. The banning of books from schools and libraries is similar to Frederick Douglass being prevented from learning to read because both victims were hindered from learning to their full potential, didn’t get to make their own decisions, and both have had to go out of their way to educate themselves.…

Additionally, I learned about being careful to write toward an audience. In prior drafts, I had not focused much on my audience, but as I read my paper, I realized that I could not feel a connection with the piece. However, when I focused on a specific audience, I realized that my paper was better. After learning about the importance of audience, I shared it with my students in a minilesson.…

When the semester began I thought to my knowledge that my writing was that of good quality. Though I had a good basic understanding of the format of an essay or letter I still had a lot to learn. My writing changed in many ways such as learning to eliminate unnecessary wording in my thesis, the use of synonyms, analyzing quotes and writing abstract to concrete thoughts or ideas. This Class not only helped enhance my writing abilities but to also better evaluate the writings of others and forced me to acknowledge the rigorous work of future courses in college.…

Many countries have a controversy whether they should ban guns or whether not to. In the United States they have not banned handguns completely like other countries. Can you just imagine how much peaceful things would be if they would ban them in the united states as well? Lately as you can see in the news there have been massive gun shootings in schools from all ages. How is it possible for just any one to get hold of a gun that easily? Some benefits to banning handgun would be there won't be so much gun violence, not everyone can get hold of a gun so easily, and the population or estimates of kids dying do to gun issues would drop massively.…

This year in college Studies I focused on the Critical Thinking subjects of Ethical Issues and Communication. Focusing on Ethical Issues and Social Responsibilities forced me to think of the issues at stake in the America and world, also what the consequences of my actions are on society. In order to reflect my learning of this subject I chose two papers which I used as my reflection essay for end of the semester. The first one is titled “Human Rights”. It forced me to look at the history of human rights and how they have been abused in the past or how they might be getting abused today. The second paper I chose to represent Ethical Issues and Social Responsibilities is titled “Power of Communication”. This semester forced me to do tons of research using books from Mesa College, UCSD and SDSU libraries, Journals, Magazines, and the internet. I learned a great deal from researching and writing.…

To begin with, through all the writing assignments that I have written so far, I have showed to have the capacity to come out with good ideas. Thinking about possible reasons of the problem, consequences or even solutions to the topic, are all very important as the first step to begin. For instance, while writing assignment number two, I started with questions to make us think how armed guards may not be prepared to work with children, and I listed detailed examples on how its consequences can affect the kids’ welfare. In doing so, it can make the readers think profoundly, and realize that there is more to worry about over its negative consequences. In other words, deeply comprehending the topic helps to increase my and the readers’ critical thinking and develop better viewpoints and conclusions. Having good concepts, motivated me to write well-developed writings.…
