Architect Felino Palafox Jr.

At the corner of Makati Avenue and Pasay road glistens a 30-story floor that is home to two famous brands in the hotel industry, Fairmont and Raffles Hotel. There are three distinct properties, the Fairmont Hotel Makati that has 280 rooms, the 32-suite Raffles Makati, and 237 serviced apartments of the Raffles Residences. The Fairmont and Raffles brands may share the same property, restaurant outlets and function rooms; they are managed independently and have a different vibe into their three distinct properties. The Fairmont brand has its roots in Bermuda with a North American sense of service while the Raffles being Singapore based has an Asian approach to the hospitality industry. On July 10, 2013, the class of Architect Palafox held a hotel tour at Fairmont Raffles Makati at 7a.m. As soon as we entered the hotel there was a delightful greeting by Rey Moraga who is an alumni of Enderun Colleges who now works at the hotel. We gathered at the lobby as we were waiting for our other classmates to arrive. We were transferred to the Sampiro, one of their Function Rooms. The names of their different function rooms are derived from old Makati names where the hotel is situated.
Moreover, Mr. Matias explained our agenda for the hotel tour, consists of touring the Hotel (Raffles and Fairmont Front of the House and the Back of the House. They started by showing us a video on how Raffles and Fairmont differ from each other. In the video, it does not look obvious that they are marketing the hotel but their main focus is to “create memories for our guest.” As shown in the video that we watched it focused on how they make their memories with the guest by providing them a personal service for three generations of the family that stayed in the hotel. Starting on the tour, Ms. Princess Estrella who is from the Sales and Marketing Department will be the tour guide of our hotel tour. We

She basically took the hotel industry and created niche markets around them then allowed them to develop through word of mouth and social media. The social media marketing was growing causing online sites to provide services and reviews related to the industry. By creating what consumers call “Original hotels” they separated themselves from competition by not appearing publicly like one of the major chain companies. Both business professionals and tourists enjoy the unique atmosphere and the aspect that the hotel is trying to be environmentally friendly; in result it has been drawing a good audience. They have been adapting their strategy to meet the psychological needs of the consumers to promote return customers fueling word of mouth advertising. Elizabeth Bishop’s “The Hanging of the Mouse”, places animals in the roles of humans in reference to an execution. The writer uses animals to replace humans to possibly convey a message or point of view towards the death penalty. In the story, the mouse is being executed for what we believe is some sort of crime. It isn’t clear whether or not the mouse actually committed a crime, but we are led to believe that an act occurred in which caused the mouse to be executed on this particular day.…

Are European hotel restaurants problematic or instrumental in creating value? In Western Europe the majority of the hoteliers and other stakeholders involved with them agree that hotel restaurants are a liability because of the very low profit margins and the difficulty of making a return on investment. This is without even mentioning all the operational problems inherent to this type of activity. It is true that in Europe hotel restaurants are subject to the same constraints as other restaurants which most resemble the Lernean Hydra. Each independent hotel, or hotel chain, tries to find its own solutions.…

The usage of most advanced large-scale bread manufacturing facility that is fully automated and computer controlled, untouched by human hands of Gardenia in their conversion cycle is the most remarkable in their system. As I have personally seen how the machines process all the ingredients to ensure the quality and freshness of their products, I could really say that the company had used well the technology available to give them the best advantage in their industry. I have also seen how their workers ensure quality control by checking any deformed loaf of bread ahead of the process and then putting a sign on it – a pink paper in their case – to notify the person in charge to remove it before the packing stage. I have had this impression that maybe the reason why defective breads were not being removed at an earlier stage of the process is because these breads undergo joint processing with non-defective breads and will later be used for further processing in order to be sold as one of the by-product of the company. I have been informed that one example of the company’s by-product is fish feeds.…

The topic I choose to react on is the concept of CSR. The topic explains what exactly Corporate Social Responsibility is. It explains that in applying Corporate Social Responsibility it focuses the importance of keeping or looking out for the best interests not just for the shareholders but the whole society as well. The company’s business operations must take in consideration of the interests of the stakeholders. The report also tackles why the need for the CSR arises, its impact and benefits to the company itself and to the society, its core characteristics, the ISO standards- what it is for, the pyramid of CSR namely: economic responsibility, legal responsibility, ethical responsibility and philanthropic responsibility and the arguments that arises in applying CSR. Issues about the actions of companies regarding how they abuse the use of natural resources in their conduct of their operations, how they overlook the employee’s interests and don’t take into considerations the customer’s wellbeing in their products just to earn their money is very prevalent nowadays. Hence, the concept of corporate social responsibility arises and become important aspect in conducting business.…
