Pursuing A Criminal Justice Degree
My educational goals and plans involve criminal justice, human services, and vet science. I went to Niacc for two years to try and get my Criminal Justice degree. I took several classes for it, but fell short of money to finish what I needed to graduate. I have always been interested in T.V. shows like Criminal Minds and Law and Order: SVU, 48 Hours, and Dateline. Those shows give me the idea of what I want to do and who I want to be like. I don't know the destined occupation in that career field that I want to do. I would be okay with any job in that career field though. I have much respect for police officers and fire fighters. I always told myself I want to be like them someday. I want to be a hero to someone. I want to go the extra

My Career is Police Dog Handler. A Police Dog Handler, or K-9 Unit, is a unit in the police force that does specialized police work. They track down suspects, search for missing people, illegal drugs, explosives, and stop a crime in progress. I plan to be in the force after I graduate collage, but before I become a K-9 officer I must be a patrol officer for 3 to 4 years and volunteer on my days off, and have a good home with a fence around my yard and a good dog owner. After I leave the Academy I will be a patrol officer in Mccomb, MS before going to Magnolia, MS to be in the K-9 Division. The main reason I chose this career is that the crime rate and drug use in Mississippi is increasing, not just that but more guns are on the street and more…

Criminal Justice Major was not my first option; in fact I never even considered criminal justice. I was an undeclared freshman who hated school and was thinking about dropping out to work in the union. The only reason I went to college was because I received basketball scholarships to many schools and I wanted to continue the sport I loved to play. Talking to my family about this they obviously did not want me to drop out and they wanted me to continue school and get a diploma. That where my brother says at least go for 2 years and get a degree so you can become a cop if you don’t like the union. So the next semester I joined criminal justice and ever since then criminal justice has been a passion to me, thanks…

As a child I would always watch Miami Vice which is a show about two cops and their experiences while working as detectives in the Miami police department. Through the years I eventually started watching more tv shows about police and what they do. This always kept me on track with the ideas of being coming a police officer or working in the criminal justice department. While it is my dream to become a police officer I also have another career that interest me and that is aviation. I always thought it was cool fly on planes as a kid but I did not become interested in becoming a pilot until this summer when I had started working at Detroit metro airport. With my job as a ramp agent I am in constant contact with airplanes and the pilots that fly them. Throughout my summer I had the chance to talk to many pilots and they told me the things that I would have to do to become a pilot. With that being said I have two careers that interest me and at this moment in my life I do not know which one I like more.…

All law enforcement agencies require that new applicants have completed a law enforcement training academy and at least 2 years of college, although some departments require only a high school diploma and a clear criminal record but an associates or a bachelor degree is prefer. However all applicants must meet all of the written, psychological and physical standards applied by the POST exams and pass a background check and a polygraph test.…

I have chosen to return to school and pursue a Master’s degree in Criminal Justice for a couple of reasons. The first reason is to increase my personal knowledge of the Criminal Justice system which includes police trends, criminal/civil courts, juvenile justice and other aspects of law enforcement. During my experience as commissioned officer for the past four years I have learned that in order to consider myself as an experienced officer and train others in law enforcement, I have to increase my knowledge base in all areas of Criminal Justice through education. This would give me credibility if I chose to be a Field Training Officer or an instructor at a law enforcement training academy. In order for me to be confident in a supervisory position…

I have helped in a thrift store my church owns, and become a pro at running a concession stand, however, this also made me realize that I do not want to work in customer service type jobs. I job shadowed a police officer, and at The Daily American, which did help me narrow my options down. In the past year I have also discovered more about the career I want with getting more involved with helping out in the school library and the school newspaper. My goals are rather simple, but it has taken me awhile to figure out. I want to earn enough money to support myself, to be good at what in my career, and to enjoy going to work each day. My other career goal is to eventually become an established writer. I am currently an undecided major, however, I am most likely going to major in criminology with a minor in creative writing. I have decided to go with a criminology major because I do have an interest in becoming a criminologist. I am currently studying at the Allegany College of Maryland, for several reasons. The first is because I wanted to see what a…
