Pubmed Databases
PubMed and Google Scholar are two different databases used for searching articles on online. PubMed are mostly used for biomedical and clinical journals. The data information are organized based on the date, author, tittle and type of article. This made it easier to search and retrieve journal articles faster. PubMed have an advance function like MeSH term subheading but Google scholar lack MeSH function (Jean-François, Laetitia, & Stefan, 2013). Also, the content of the articles on PubMed are well structures with the major topics, thus helps to get a good results. For example: When I search for sleep apnea on PubMed, many articles with sleep apnea as the major topic showed up. But, on google scholar few of the articles appeared …show more content…
I type in Sleep apnea, click on search, many articles appeared. I gazed through them, then narrow it down by choosing the article types I want on review, click on free full text, I want the article to be less than 5 years, I choose the publishing date of 5 years and there is a section says species, I click on humans. The search went down to 240. Based on my topic, I choose an article that describe how cardiovascular disease related to sleep apnea. Then I look at the authors, I always like to use an article that has 2 or more authors. It shows the article is stronger because many people contributed in writing and reviewing …show more content…
As a student, a database search has enable me in writing scholar academic work. Every paper/topics I have to write in school required me to use a credible source to find a peer review articles or academic journals. It shows the contents of the information in the paper are reliable, facts and not misleading. The use of database in nursing work (evidence-based practice) has been credible because it made it easier for nursing students to access information on any particular topics or disease. It also, aide in conducting research on patients based on what other experts on the field have researched, reviewed and written on the subject matter. For example, after I graduate from nursing school, I will be using current evidence based practice to provide a quality care to patients. Personal self-development: I have learnt that every articles and publish work on the database such as google scholar, PubMed, CINAHL are written and reviewed by the experts on the fields, people with many years of experience working, teaching or researching on the topic. It is a good place to find articles to read or use in writing paper than Wikipedia and other online website. It will enable me to make important decisions especially concerning health issues by doing my own

    Once the topic of hydrotherapy was of interest, keywords such as "effectiveness of hydrotherapy" and "benefits of hydrotherapy for lower limbs" were used in search engines such as Google Scholar and SciVerse. Once articles appeared to be of relevance to the guiding question, the abstracts of each of these articles were read and only those that were easily understood, were interesting and matched closely to the guiding question were selected to be used in the bibliography.
