SPEECH 4 “TRADITIONAL BOOK vs. ELECTRONIC BOOK (EBOOK)”
THE NEW ERA OF ACQUARING, STORING, AND CARRYING INFORMATION.
General Purpose: To persuade
Specific Purpose: At the end of my speech, the audience will agree that EBook is better than traditional book.
Proposition of fact: EBook is better than Traditional Books.
Organizational Pattern: Cause and Effect
Introduction
According to Wiki Answers an average college student would access about 700 books during their 4 years of undergraduate studies. Assuming you want to keep the books for future, let’s do a simple math- if 1 book weighs 2pounds on average, you would require about 1400 pounds of books essentially leading to a personal library in your home. In order to make that happen each of us would be responsible for the destruction of about 6 trees. Now that’s not a big figure, but think about 12000 undergraduates in University of Wyoming alone, with 20.3 million students pursuing higher education in United States as of 2010 consensus. That amounts to chopping down of more than 100 million trees in the next four years! 100m!! I have come to the realization that modern technology can provide us with a much better alternative. Today I’d like to introduce you to- The Electronic Book. Also known as the eBook, it can serve the purpose of text books and much more. I’d explain six of the many reasons relevant to us, students that make them a better choice.
