The three issues that I feel could compromise one’s credibility are; 1) not following the law of conduct on or off duty, 2) over achieving their power that they are authorized to use and 3) not being courteous and respecting the offenders. In order to keep these issues from becoming a pitfall into a probation officers profession is when he or she is off duty they need to keep their personal life personal because they are entitled to a personal life. It is how they conduct themselves when in the public. Example: Sally June is invited to a house party at Cheryl’s house once Sally arrive there she know what her profession is and the people that are going to be there is the public.…

This can also help with job rotation, this is because if through probation, the employer sees that the employee possesses other skills that are not required to the job role they are currently in, they are called “multi-skillers”. Multi-skillers are people who have more than one skill that can be applied at a different position, and this helps employees to develop as if they work in the finance department i.e. their numeracy skills are very good, but also have very good customer service skills, they can do other jobs like working in the customer service department for a while when the company needs…

As a result, these systems have restructured of a number of prisoners and the acknowledgment that young offenders need to be treated differently. The courts want to make sure that juveniles do not commit any more offenses and put the minors in rehabilitation if necessary. It would be harder to release a juvenile back into society if they were trail as an adult. Parole was a great idea to save the state money. When a person is sentenced to prison and serves 85% of their time and have good behavior, they become eligible for parole. While on parole, they are still considered an inmate. The inmate must fellow all the rules code of conduct while being on parole. Probation is a sentence ordered by a judge instead of serving time in jail. One of the problems about probation, is does it really work? We have so many people in our prisons rate now, because of probation violations. A lot of people get out of prison because they were in there for a violation of there probation, and a lot return for this same reasons. Harkin, D. (Ed.). (n.d.). “Probation and parole can be very cost efficient. In 2010, Larry J. Siegel wrote a report stating that the U.S. spends about twenty five thousand dollars meanwhile probation only spends two thousand. The government saves twenty three thousand dollars by keeping inmates out of prison and keeps prisons from overcrowding. Dangerous criminals should be kept in prison instead of being let out and keeping minor offenders in. Probation helps offenders recover by allowing them to enter society with a different mindset. Probation helps offenders recover by allowing them to do such things as preserve employment, gain support and help from their loved ones and once again become a productive citizen. That can’t be done in jail.…

The terms and conditions of a persons probation are clear, cut, and dry. Probation is a prison sentence that has been suspended on the condition that the offender follows certain prescribed rules and commits no further offenses (Sieter, 2011). A probation officer evaluates offender progress and recommends intensity of supervision based on observations from time of conviction through the period of adjustment after release from an institution (FL DOC, 2012). The whole program is pretty much laid out for you, all you have to do is follow it.…

Recidivism is currently the primary outcome measure for probation, as it is for all corrections programs. (Pertersilia, 1998) Probation is under the constant criticism of people questioning if it actually works. There were multiple studies (and some that are still continuing) that are testing the effects of probation. In 1985, a sample of 1,672 felony probationers sentenced in Los Angeles and Alameda Counties in 1980 were tracked for a three-year period by RAND researchers. Over that time period, the researchers found that 65 percent of the probationers were rearrested, 51 percent were reconvicted, and 34 percent were reincarcerated. (Petersilia, 1998) In other words, from the results of their study, they found that probation may not be a viable alternative to jail or prison. Many other agencies replicated the RAND study and…

Probation is a remedy which offenders must avail of at the first opportunity. As presently worded, the Probation Law requires that the application for probation must be filed within the period for perfecting an appeal. Thus, the filing of an appeal and an application for probation are mutually exclusive remedies, such that recourse to one necessarily bars resort to the other – as each will operate as an automatic waiver of the other.…
