Privacy In Latin America
Latin America is as isolated as Gabriel Garcia Marquez pinpoints in his novel 1000 Years of Solitude. A Nation filled with poverty and scared by the mark of imperialism modernization has happened at a slower rate for the people of this region. As a result of this Latin Americans are limited in their use of the internet and other forms of digital communication. Research shows that Latin America is not as isolated as it has been in the past. This is due to the introduction of the cell phone. Cell Phones enable citizens to have “personal” access to the internet on a day-to-day basis. Analyzing this simple idea of the rarity of personal internet use it can be hard for those in America seeing how they are able to access the internet on many platforms

For many In America this is framed with the saying ”land liberty and the pursuit of happiness”. Three terms that are not easily defined in the modern world. Questions such as what is yours i.e. “Land” and what is not play a role in defining what is what in the digital world.With this in mind it is easy to predict the introduction of Agencies like the CIA, NSA and the overarching power of the government. Agencies such as these are used to ensure that the digital world in America is safe.For many this is a seen as an invasion of privacy. The Internet is seen as a personal in its use and consumption. In stark contrast Latin America is a nation that is not only protected in its use of the internet but also restricted. In saying this Latin American government does not let those who are of lower SES status access sites and or information depending on what people search online. Serious measures have been put into place to ensure that these policies are enforced and followed. One of these being the banning from mainstream internet access unless it is done in a public place for instance a library. Consequently many Latin Americans can only access the internet through their mobile devices making Latin Americans the largest social meida users of the time.
