Pollard: Summary And Analysis
Communication 110
5/1/13
“Without change there is no innovation, creativity, or incentive for improvement. Those who initiate change will have a better opportunity to manage the change that is inevitable William Pollard.” The quote by William Pollard was a quote that held truth to me about not making changes to better ourselves and if we continue on this path of non-improvement then we will find ourselves left out of many different opportunities. I found this quote in the beginning of the 2013 spring semester, because of this quote I was able to stay dedicated to improve in what I lacked. In my communication 110 class I was able to improve on qualities of myself that I didn’t think I could really improve on. I was able to greatly improve

I had to plan ahead in order to make sure that I accomplish the assignments for this class while still attending the board meetings for the organizations I was a part of. By looking at my Participation paper I was there for a majority of my class days and the only reason I missed class was because of really bad allergies and when I received bronchitis for week and a half. By going to class I was able to get tips on how to make my work better and how to accomplish the tasks given to us better thus making it less stressful for me to finish the project meaning I was more likely to finish the project earlier than the time given to us. When I realized that going to class and doing my work before the due date made me less stressed out I tried my hardest to always finish my work in all my class on time making me have a less stressful week. Another example of my improvement in this area is when we look at my Communication improvement profile paper written in the beginning of the year. I wrote the paper the night before and really didn’t look at the rule brick on how everything needed to be organized. When looking at this paper I followed the rule brick the best I can and wrote this paper before the due date allowing me to continually correct the grammar mistakes I have made and other problems that could have been found in this paper. All my goals lead into each other helping me grow and develop into a better person that can now be ready for change. By having the right mindset and setting out to do the goals I said I would I have overcome so much in such a little amount of time. Just like how William Pollard said it best in his quote that I had quoted earlier in my paper about those who are not ready to make that change will be left behind and I for sure do not want to be left

My goal has been to be prepared and sometimes ahead of what’s coming, even if it has meant giving up some free time on evenings and the weekends. I have and continue to work hard to achieve my goals and take pride in my accomplishments thus far. I am never happy with something that is anything than less than my best effort. This applies across my academics and my favorite pastime of playing travel baseball.…

I approach everything step by step....I had always set short-term goals. As I look back, each one of the steps or successes led to the next one. When I got cut from the varsity team as a sophomore in high school, I learned something. I knew I never wanted to feel that bad again....So I set a goal of becoming a starter on the varsity. That’s what I focused on all summer. When I worked on my game, that’s what I thought about. When it happened, I set another goal, a reasonable, manageable goal that I could realistically achieve if I worked hard enough....I guess I approached it with the end in mind. I knew exactly where I wanted to go, and I focused on getting there. As I reached those goals, they built on one another. I gained a little confidence every time I came through.…

One of the decisions I made that helped me succeed in my APDC English class was to work harder than my classmates, because success belongs only to those who are willing to work harder than anyone else To illustrate, my first assignment was a columnist project that I have to annotate and soapstone an article, and write a rhetorical précis and a critical response paragraph. I was worried about the grammar and punctuation of my project since English is my second language. In addition, I started my project two weeks before the due date to make sure I had the enough amount of time to fix any grammar error and to make an exemplary project. When I got back my project, I felt very proud of myself because I got a higher grade than many of my classmates…

In life, to successfully move forward I need to establish goals. “The tragedy in life is not reaching your goal, but having no goal to reach” (Leadership for Student Activities, 2005). I must have a plan of how I will achieve my goals and be able to identify when an important element of that goal is reached. Possible setbacks must be considered and purposeful schemes arranged for when the unexpected shows up. According to Deci and Ryan (1984), “Goals, whether trivial, routine, significant or life altering, are part of peoples everyday lives”.…

Goals that I had set for myself and accomplished were bringing my GPA up and getting inducted into National Honor Society. During my freshman year, my GPA was B+ and so I started motivating myself and I did this by focusing on my grades more often and asking teachers for help, who were very kind. I would like to be able to become stronger both in academics and extra circular activities for me to become stronger and a capable student; it will take hard work and dedication just to push myself. As years passed, by GPA started going up and in my junior year where, some of my friends got inducted into National Honor Society and I had not. It had motivated me more to work even harder, and by the end of Junior Year, my GPA was 89.04 and I was ranked…

Having grown up in a single parent home with two sisters who did not complete high school, made the pressure for me to succeed unimaginable. The constant reminder of achieving greatness has stuck with me since I was eight years old. Throughout middle school I was top of my class, in high school I graduated cum laude with a 4.4 GPA and currently in my 1st year of college I am top of my intermediate/college algebra class, I scored the highest grade out of all 5 of my psychology teachers classes, and I have an A in my Philosophy class. My educational goals consist of gaining knowledge throughout my entire life, achieving higher than my goals, being as involved as I can possibly be with my college/ community, and continuing to prosper. Ever since…

My first goal was to obtain my general Equivalency Diploma (GED) with the intentions of later attending college. It took me longer to achieve my goals, since I have had many personal obstacles in my way. At the age of 17, I became a married teenage single mother of a one month old baby. I did not have much of a family so I had to take care of my child on my own. My family was not the type to go to for help because they would take from someone leaving them helpless. Looking in the mirror one day after being knocked down for not cooking dinner, made me look into my soul through my eyes; I decided enduring a life with so much Domestic Violence that it was not for me.…

This project was very challenging for me because I felt the task was very unclear. I intentionally started to work a week ahead in hopes to do well, but it did not result in that way. My goal of to start early was to hopefully end early or use all the additional time to strength my essay. However, at the last days I ended up writing two newer versions of my essay. I invested a lot of time in my essay, but it still did not turn out the way I wanted. I understand that my work is not the best, there were some improvements. Some of those improvements included better addresses my ideas and connect my topic sentences with my argument. When I got my score back I was a bit frustrated and disappointed, but my drive to do well in the class pushed me to do better in the RIP…
