Plattsmouth High School Essay
Plattsmouth High School is a co-ed, public high school in Plattsmouth, Nebraska. It is part of the Plattsmouth Community Schools. PHS holds classes for pupils in grades 9 through 12. There are around 500 pupils enrolled and the student-to-teacher ratio is 12:1. State proficiency tests show 78 perent of pupils are proficient in English and 65 percent are profiient in Mathematics. The graduation rate is 95 percent and the College Readiness Index is 6.5.

To graduate from PHS, pupils need 240 credits in English, Social Studies, Mathematics, Science, Health, Fine Arts, Career Pathways, Communication/Life Skills, and Physical Education. Pupils can add up to 55 electives to satisfy the needed number of credits. Advanced Placement, Honors Course, and Special Education classes are available for those who qualify.

PHS is a member of the Nebraska High School Activities Association and part of the Eastern Midlands Conference. It has varsity sports for both boys and girls. For girls, varsity sports include volleyball, softball, golf, cross-country, and track. Some of the teams for boys include basketball, baseball, wrestling, football, and soccer. There are several places of interest in Plattsmouth. The Cass County Historical Museum shares exhibits showing the history of Plattsmouth and Cass County. The museum also sponsors special events and day trips. The Plattsmouth Conservancy is dedicated to the preservation and history of local architecture. A big annual event in Plattsmouth is the Plattsmouth Harvest Festival. The event lasts four days and features carnival rides, karaoke, food concessions, corn eating contests, tractor racing, and fireworks. Plattsmouth has several local parks for outdoor enjoyment Rhylander Park has pavillions, sports fields, playgrounds, and hiking trails.
