INTRODUCTION
1.0 INTRODUCTION On this chapter will be clarifying on the introduction of this research about the overview, aim, objective, problem statement, scope of study and also the method to conduct this research.
1.1 Overview Of The Title
Petroleum depots and terminal is a portion of the assets, where flammable and combustible liquids like petroleum are transferred to tanker, pipelines, tank wagons, tank trucks and are stored or blended in bulk for the purpose of distribution by tankers, pipelines likely to be refined, blended or stored at the above its flash point (OISD, 2007). It is very crucial to ensure that the depots and terminal have minimal fire or explosion risks especially for more flammable product such as petrol …show more content…
According to Yu. N. Shabeko et. al. (2007), fires on such large oil storages can have catastrophic consequences both for neighboring objects and environment. At the same time an experience of fire safety ensuring of such large-scale terminals is not sufficient (particularly taking into account their location in areas with a severe climate). Therefore, the fire protection for depots and terminal would be different from a regular building.
1.2 Aim
The aim of this research is to study fire mitigation and control for independent oil terminal at Senari, Kuching.
1.3 Objectives
1. To study the fire mitigation and control system used in oil terminal
2. To analyze errors that can lead to failure of fire mitigation and control system.
3. To investigate fire safety requirement and risk on oil terminal.
1.4 Problem Statement
The petroleum and the related industries deal with tremendous bulk quantities of flammable and combustible material daily. These materials are handle at extremely high pressure and temperature where explosive, corrosive and toxic properties may also be …show more content…
Fadeyibi O.I, (2011), states a total of 646 victims sustained 100% burns and died at the disaster ruptures in 44.4%. According to Song H.G., (2013), On 16 July, 2010 an unexpected pipeline break during crude oil desulfurization in the new Dalian Port Oil Terminal resulted in a serious fire and explosion accident
1.5 Scope Of Study
This dissertation will focus on fire mitigation and control for oil terminal. It focuses on independent oil terminal at Senari, Kuching Sarawak. A set of interview question will be prepared to a chosen interviewee.
1.6 Methodology: 1.6.1 Primary data
a. Interview
A set of question will be prepared to several-selected interviewee. The interviewee will be the one that is in charge for HSE for that oil terminal
b. Observation
Observation will be carried out at the Senari Independent Oil terminal, Kuching.
1.6.2 Secondary research
a. Internet research
Research was done in order to get the idea on the fire mitigation and control system. It is by gathering all the information regarding fire safety and how it can help in emergency case.
b. Written resources
Journals and articles ware used to add on in the information regarding the topic
