The first reason why kids should have a summer break is that summer is very important to our culture. According to “Why Summer is so Important for Teens,” during summer, teens can do activities they wouldn’t be able to do during the school year. Frequent breaks in the school year allow students and teachers to recharge themselves, be more active in class, and have higher academic achievement. Students and teachers can get tired if they have ongoing class for ten months without a break big enough to recharge. Some of the illnesses that people could have fought off when they were fully rested could make them sick and make more people absent (edweek.org). Absences due to illnesses can be sustained by year round school because of the time to recharge and can raise their academic achievement by having more time in class than when they would usually be sick. Although summer vacation may be fun, having frequent breaks in the school year can help students retain their knowledge and have higher academic achievement (nea.org). Retaining knowledge because of shorter summer breaks…

Should public schools be scheduled to be opened all year round? Students would hopefully approve. Public schools should have a system where schools shall be open for a short while, and it shall gain extended normal weekends. Year-round schooling has many beneficial advantages to schools who don’t have this. To start off, “students would have a higher chance of remembering what they were taught” (Scherman). In addition, students will have a positive attitude when going to school. Lastly, having frequent breaks will allow the students’ and the teacher’s mindset to recharge or to cool off.…

With the year-round schedule students receive the same amount of time away from school. Students are still required to go to school for 180 days, but instead of summers of they receive a short break every nine weeks. This proves that students receive the same amount of opportunities for family time when compared to the traditional school schedule. With year-round schooling students have the same amount of time off, but with the schedule they can spend more time with family throughout the year and not just in the summertime. Others argue that students will get sick of school on the year-round schedule.…

Starting school later is a big decision for students, teachers and also parents. Students get tired and to a point where enough is enough. When there is late start because of bad weather, students seem to get to school and be alert. It is very hard to wake up in the morning for some students because of the night before they might have had to do homework or get caught up doing errands and they seem to go to sleep late and they don’t get much hours of sleep. Schools need to think more about students academics and really look into if that student is behind, or is not getting enough sleep and do something about it like make school start later. Over 20% of Americans suffer from sleep loss and more than 1,500 deaths a year are caused by drivers that have fallen asleep at the wheel. One way these two frightening statistics could be lowered is by simply changing school start times. Students need more sleep than what they are getting due to early school start times, which is getting sleepy drivers on the road. School start times should be later than they are now because middle school and high school students are “programmed” to sleep in, sleep improves grades and it also improves physical health.…

Have you ever considered switching to year round schooling? Here are some reasons not to switch, the summer time is packed and expensive, it’s harder for students and teachers, and finally there is a greater possibility for brain drain. In the article “Top 10 Reasons Why Year Round School is a Good Idea,” it states that by having one big vacation block, travel is more expensive. No matter the amount of time you get for summer you will still wind up spending more because both of the summer breaks, for year round and regular schooling, are during the summer months which are when airlines raise their prices. Also, by having less time off there is less time to play sports and hangout with family which is what most kids, like myself, look forward too. Another statement from the article said that breaks that are frequent are good for both students and teachers. With more frequent breaks the teachers will have to cram in all the information before each break. Students look forward to days off of school, but if breaks are more frequent, then they won’t get as excited because the breaks happen so…

Many schools in the United States are beginning to change their school calendar so their students attend class all year round. The changes still allow the students time off in the summer, but they do not have the three months of break most students in America receive traditionally. Instead, they get a break of a couple weeks in the summer, and the remainder of the time is divided up and put into other breaks throughout the year. All schools in America should switch to a year-round calendar to accommodate the different and higher level of learning needed to be successful in our changing world and society. The traditional school system was designed many years ago when our country was an agricultural nation. Therefore, the school calendar was developed having a long break in the summer so students could assist their family with cultivating crops and other aspects of farm life. The traditional school calendar was not a calendar for higher learning, and should be extended to meet the needs of modern day students. There are many explanations as to why the traditional school calendar should be changed.…
