Parents may worry about the cost of uniforms, saying it is a huge downside but it’s really not. Kids do not need many out-of-school clothing options because they wear their uniforms most of the day and on most days of the week. Additionally, uniforms are becoming more fashionable so kids won’t cringe at the thought of wearing plain, dull outfits. Some schools even offer events in which parents can swap clothing and exchange gently used uniforms with other parents for different sizes. Not to mention that uniforms can easily be passed down from child to child as they grow older, which is what my mother chose to do putting four kids through catholic school. This can save parents hundreds of dollars each year. Even without the option of an event swap, or hand me downs, the cost difference of uniforms to a regular closet of a growing youngster can be several hundred dollars or more.…

Having a school uniform will promote learning since school uniforms lessen distractions taking place in the classroom. According to the article “Appearances are Destructive” author Mark Mathabane describes how teachers have shared their frustrations with being unable to teach students willing to learn because they are constantly being disrupted by other students who are concerned about their appearance. These students become so involved in how they look, that they are disturbing the whole class, with careless acts such as combing their hair, changing clothes, comparing labels, and asking other students for their opinion.
