Persuasive Essay About School Lunch
When an american person thinks of school lunch they reminisce on some of their favorite childhood foods from pizza to salisbury steak. School lunch is an iconic part of public schooling to most that have endured it. It is a moment of peace where students are able to enjoy their favorite delicacies. A favored time by all kids that participate. Yet now the school board is trying to remove the classic lunch meals with a more healthy alternative getting rid of some favorite options; why is that? Why would the school board want to take away a student's option to a cheap, reliable, and delicious meal that brings joy to the hearts of students? It is a great question, I’m not quite sure their is a plausible answer. Let us discuss the reasons why …show more content…
For instance besides the normal lines that serve pizza and chicken nuggets, there is an additional line set up everyday to serve chopped salads. Not to mention these salads come with a fresh fruit and reduced fat chips. If that isn’t a healthy lunch I’m not sure what a healthy lunch is. Even if you are grabbing lunch from the “unhealthy lines,” everyone is forced to have at least one fruit or vegetable per tray. Another example of good health policy in the school right now involves the drinks being sold. They has been a removal of soda machines in the school so that now the only options to drink are low-fat milk, natural juices, and water. Along with the soda machines the snack machines are cut off during school hours, so that kids have no access in school to the unfavored foods. Now skip back to the quote on quote unhealthy lines; they serve plenty of meals deemed healthy by most. These meals include spaghetti, meatloaf, spinach salad, cheese sandwiches, vegetable soup and many more healthy delicious options. Besides these statements other things have been put forth such as the removal of salt packets from lines, the increased use of whole wheat products, and the ban of selling baked goods during lunch hours. Doesn’t this sound like a healthy lunch environment for

Now what make’s her think that she can just but in like the way she already has? Well the fact is, is that she wants kids to be more healthy so instead of giving us a normal amount of food which most middle schoolers eat a lot of she decided that she would make us healthier and cut that in half. She also has decided that she would also make our food healthier by making the food whole grain, no wheat, no gluten things like that. My opinion is that I think this is just wrong.…

At the Newport Preparatory Academy we think that we might do that but not with all the food that we make. In this quote you will how schools would feed the students “ which took effect in 2012, they are no longer served greasy pizza, salty French fries and sauced up chicken wings.” This quote supports my claim because schools used to give the students just junk food. There is a reason why they took that away and it’s because it is really unhealthy for the kids. This quote shows how kids don’t eat school lunch anymore “Meals must now be lower in fat, calories and sodium and contain lean proteins, more fruits and vegetables and whole grains. And kids from coast to coast are wrinkling their noses.” The problem with the school's changing the lunch is that the kids make their faces that they don’t want it and throw it away and that is wasting food that people would want. Another thing is that the kids will stop buying the food and we won’t have money to do lunch and that would be bad for our school. Altogether I think that the kids should start eating healthier for their…

One reason that the school boards should improve our school lunches is because kids get to choose want they want for school. According Mary L. Gavin, MD can choose to eat the green beans or throw them out. A kid also can choose to eat an apple instead of an ice cream sandwich. Another reason is Because they serve junk food everyday. According to Richard J. Codey junk food should be banned at schools because it leads to obesity. It also can affect their future for them. Schools should make sure that the lunch they provide is nutritious. Julia Tofan, a high school student in Connecticut states, “Students deserve balanced meals that will enable our minds and bodies to power through our busy days -- not a sugar rush that won't last beyond the lunch period” (Tofan and Millerick 1). Tofan is insisting that school lunches should be healthy. School providing junk food to the students are failing them because those are calories that break down easily. Once that food is gone the students will be hungry again making lunch a waste. However, healthy foods will stick with students throughout a longer period of time as well as helping students become healthier. Schools providing nutritious lunches will allow students to…

Some students may disagree with this decision, because they feel no one should make them eat something they don't want to. I believe changing the school lunch menu to healthier foods is a good idea, because most students do not eat healthy at home, it can decrease the percentage amount of obesity in students, and it makes the school look good. First, school cafeteria's should change the lunch menu to healthier foods because most kids do not eat healthy at home. In order to take care of yourself and live a long life you must eat right.…

In recent years, school cafeterias across America have started a new lunch trend that has sparked quite a debate. With so many complaints about the poor quality food that schools have been serving students, bringing in popular fast food restaurants to replace traditional lunches seems to be the quick solution. This new trend is not only a dull attempt to solve an issue, but it also creates other problems for school age children, as well as the entire nation. Fast food restaurants may be more popular among students, which is financially appealing to school staff, but it also creates bad eating habits that can carry on into adulthood. Not to mention, eating in such an unhealthy way can also cause excessive weight gain and poor nutrition, but…

Have you ever received a school lunch, looked at it, and wondered, “What in the world is that”? Of course you have, that’s what school lunches are known for. I can recall numerous times when I couldn’t tell what kind of slime was jiggling on my lunch tray; was it the Macaroni and Cheese slime or was it the Nacho’s slime? School lunches really put the “sloppy” in Sloppy Joes and students shouldn’t be served such food at school. Schools are supposed to promote healthy, successful lifestyles, but how are they supposed to accomplish that when their school lunches are so unsuccessful and unhealthy? Serving healthier lunches in schools will benefit many aspects of a student’s life in the classroom and outside of the classroom as well. The government needs to mandate healthier lunches in schools to develop healthier eating habits in children, meet parent’s expectations, and to increase classroom performance.…
