Persuasive Essay School Lunch
Persuasive essay
Yum, yum; another school lunch… While some of our foods are “out of this world”, we sometimes find nasty “here on earth” human hairs in our foods! My friends and I find this disgusting! It makes the school look bad, and it’s very unhealthy, and could cause a job loss for our lunch ladies.
Who wants to give any kind of an award or recognition to a school with problems like these? While my school shines bright with our great teachers, our past Taks test scores, no one can ignore the thought of perhaps finding a hair in their food. I certainly don’t appreciate people thinking bad thoughts about the school that I attend just because of a few careless adults. Having these problems with school lunches makes our school not nice at all.
No student wants to eat food that has hair in it. First of all, it is extremely bad for us. A human hair is a foreign object in your body that should not be there, and should not be consumed; whether by accident or just not recognized it. Our school boasts that they should serve students a healthy, nutritious mean each and every school day. How would a student feel if they knew that the USDA allowed the school to provide meals which could make them unhealthy, or even sick? Lunch, as most know, is a very important part of a student’s school day. The food eaten at lunch should provide enough energy to complete the school day as a focused, learning student, and, for some students, to get through after school activities such as athletics and clubs; however, it is being seen more and more often that this is not the case. Chatham County Schools needs to improve its school lunches because the quantity, quality, and cost ratios are inadequate for the success of their students.…

You only push the mushy noodles around the tray then throw it away once your lunch period is over. The next period you hear your stomach growl and wish you could have had another option at lunch. If schools provided more lunch options this problem would happen less or even disappear completely.…

This school meals are not up to par, and that is why so many students do eat the school provided lunches. Online, physically, or verbally you can be a victim of being bullied. You don’t have to keep things as they are. The question is how to handle the situation (Do you attack the bully and become the bully yourself? Or do you ignore the bully and pretend all is well?) What you do is speak up and ask for help. I would know, because not only was I a victim, I was also a person who stood by and simply watched it happen.…

The state of school lunches has been a point of debate for many since Michelle Obama’s Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act signed into law December of 2010, giving full authority to the USDA in setting the nutritional standards for all foods regularly sold in school lunch lines, stores, and vending machines. The law was set to provide additional funding to meet the updated standards, however, the cost was severely underestimated. Using data provided by Medicaid, eligibility for the free or reduced school lunch programs has seen a definite increase, although participation has not (Lee, 2010). In a press release, U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services Kathleen Sebelius was quoted saying “The Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act is a significant step forward in our effort to help America's children thrive and grow to be healthy adults... By increasing the number of students eligible to enroll in school meal programs and improving the quality of food served, this legislation simultaneously tackles both hunger and the obesity levels currently affecting too many communities across this nation.” I would like to draw attention to her careful wording of “...step forward in our effort...” A subject as incredibly important as the nutrition of…
