As Mercury lay there frozen the icicle he was cold in, he watched the moon and stars planets as well as Venus and Mars how they all flew past the skies, so very far viewing such a miraculous sight was not of par

Yet there was one planet near Venus he could not name it irritated him, like a shirt with a stain
‘twas closest to the sun, it orbits it; its duty never done he decided to call it Mercury, it knew its path, yet its mind was filled with uncertainty

He continued to watch the skies until they faded away the planets, no longer visible, to his dismay, the sun rose again,
Mercury felt that it was no later than ten, then he realized something, a concept that he himself is stunned in

He watched and waited for the sun, slowly, the ice began to be undone his head, arms, and legs thawed out,
“At last, freedom!” he called out
Mercury took this chance to run as far as far as he could past his energy limit, desperately needing food

He runs past rocks, and eventually trees, he had escaped the desert, but lack of energy forced him on his knees.
He looked forward and saw the same forest as before the pathway inside was another door he went towards the pathway looking very lost, like a stowaway

Mercury walked around the forest for food, he found some fruit, which looked and tasted very good he wandered some more, to his surprise he found something he found before, an empty nest with nothing in it to rest
Mercury is reminded of the bird, instantaneously a “caw” is heard

He rushes to the bird entranced by the moonlight, this time he does not put up a fight he looks at the moon and keeps it in sight

II

The tide continues to roar, but slowly starts to cease there’s his door, he breaks the sand with ease, he turns and yearns for a better tomorrow he looks up and learns, his emotions ‘tis not sorrow the unbearable sun begins to rise
Mercury turns tail and runs, being wise

Once my sister and I were riding our bikes. As we get closer to our house she falls over. So I leave my bike on the sidewalk and run over to see if she was alright. If she wouldn’t of fell I wouldn’t of had the courage to leave my bike to see if she was alright. This supports my thesis because I had the courage to protect someone I love. My story and Rikki Tikki are similar because in a way they share the same theme. The theme is that love gives you the courage to face your fears. My fears were that my new bike would be stolen and that my sister could be really hurt. The theme of the fictional story Rikki-tikki-tavi by Rudyard Kipling is that love can give you the courage you need to face your fears.…

    The Limits of Likeness

Ernst Gombrich’s The Limits of Likeness touches upon the influence of artists’ styles in their works. This particular author refers to art in the representational sense in his story of the German and French painters in the beginning. Although the Germans attempted to prove their skill by painting the same subject, they fell prisoner to their individual styles, and each turned out slightly different. Each artist was attempting to recreate, or represent, the Roman scene. In addition, the author believes that an artist can only render what his tools and medium allow. For example, an artist holding a fine pencil will search out lines when attempting to render a scene, while one holding a coarse brush will look in terms of masses. Another concern is the difference between what an artist’s eyes sees and what he perceives. A photograph taken from the point of view of an artist would seem to represent what the artist saw when he looked at the landscape. However, it actually is a representation of what the artist perceives, after taking in the entire scene and painting how he imagines it. This is why no two paintings can be the same, even if painted from the same point of view. Yet another point Gombrich touches upon is the fact that in the early times, such as the 15th century, artists were not concerned with representing an exact replica in regards to book illustrations. They were more concerned with the reader simply understanding that they were attempting to show a city, but not a particular city. The final observation of art the author chooses to make involves painting what one knows. He claims, with adequate proof, that an artist will paint what he or she already knows. The artists will paint what is familiar, and rightly so. If their audience is one that is only familiar with one type of tree, for instance, painting a different type would confuse them, and the purpose of the tree would be void. He asks the question of how much we see is affected by our habits and…

The sky is pitch black, but bright lights illuminate the stadium. The perfectly mowed Kentucky Blue Grass is a mixture of shades of vibrant green colors. A raised, firmly packed pile of light brown dirt sits in the middle of the infield. Straight in front of this mound is home plate. First, second, and third base sit in their respective places around the infield as well. Two white lines go down the sides of the field in order to tell if a ball is foul or fair. Advertisements can be found all along the sides of the field. In left field, there is an abnormally tall, green wall called the “green monster” where the old fashioned scoreboard (the numbers still have to be change manually) is located. A myriad of hats displaying red “B’s” on the front can be found in all of the stands on the perimeter. These hats adorn the heads of the Red Sox fans in the packed stadium. In the middle of the eighth inning, the crowd stands and begins singing “Sweet Caroline.”…

The short story "Bernice Bobs Her Hair" was based, by Fitzgerald’s own account, on his letter to his sister, the story itself is "virtually a handbook of advice on how to become a successful “flapper". Fitzgerald "borrowed his major elements and themes, which we can see from the symbolism and characters in the novel, from Little Women and turned them "upside down in a Jazz Age revision."1, showing the changing social mores of Fitzgerald's time…

According to the CIA World Factbook, there are approximately 6.8 billion people living here on the Earth. That makes for a lot of interpersonal relationships and individual personalities in this world that we live in. So is it any wonder why we spend so much time in analyzing how all these people interact with each other and what factors influenced each of these 6.8 billion people? Two different and varying theories attempt to do just that; the humanistic theory and the existential theory. In the following sections, these two theories are to be used to put forth the following: 1) an analysis of how these two theories affect individual personalities and 2) explain how these two theories influence interpersonal relationships.…

    Avatar Metaphor

The question of whether the movie ‘Avatar’ is a metaphor for Earth or not is really a simple question to answer. I wouldn’t even say it is a metaphor. It is more of a prediction of where we are heading with the Earth. The story of the movie makes several references to Earth and how it’s dying. In the opening scenes of the movie, you see how overpopulated the Earth has become. They don’t specifically say it, but the battles the main character, Jake Sully, had been in and received his crippling injury when in the Marines are most likely due to that overpopulation. At this point in the overpopulation of Earth, one can deduce that all the fighting would be over resources, rather than political, religious, or ideological reasons. The only metaphor I picked up from the movie, was the Na’vi and how the company treated them. The Na’vi seem to have strikingly similar ideals in regards to the Earth and the relationship they have with it as Native Americans do. How the company acted towards the Na’vi was also very similar to how the early United States acted towards Native Americans.…

When it comes to Critical thinking it is the ability to apply of the form of reasoning and logic to an unfamiliar ideas, opinions and situation. When you thinking critical thinking it involves being opening minded and seeing thing that way. It also makes people farther than what your own opinion is, and makes you look at the world out view. Critical thinking is a process of analyzing, interpreting, or evaluating the tangible and the intangible world. And another way of critical thinking is being able to think rationally. The main three significant things I have learned were to be clearer to clarify my thinking. Be aware that my views can be looked at as well as other people view as well. Always try and stay focus on solving issues before they become into a problem are out of hand. Critical thinking has changed for me, because me personally I think when I state something that is the final word. When on the other hand listening to someone else opinion may just shed some light to the situation that is at hand. Critical thinking has made me more aware of others viewpoints really the worlds because everyone is different and looks at thing differently. I placed myself in stage advance thinker I still think that my opinion is for someone own good, but throughout this course I have learned in critical thinking look at others views as well. And being the person I am it is hard but to do things opening minded, I need to take time and try it out to listen to others as they do me. When I became to the end of this course I was telling myself it would be nice to be a master thinker, where you can use at your best critical thinking. First I believe I have to except that others has views that can be positives as well as my views and realize just, because someone comes to me with a situation they have an opinion as well. And to remember to always think rationale when am using critical thinking I may have a better outlook on…
