A remarkable amount of sports does not involve physical interaction, yet the players get called athletes. The countless hours of practice, dedication, competitions, exercise, and the substantial health they keep themselves in is the reasons they are athletes. For years, cheerleaders have been trying to justify themselves worthy of being called an athlete. Cheerleaders must constantly show how hard they work just to get the slightest bit recognition for what they do. Cheerleaders are athletes insomuch as having all those key components that an athlete possesses.…
I want to be a Clemson Cheerleader because I love cheering. Since I became a cheerleader in the seventh grade, I have lived for every practice, game, and competition. Cheerleading has given me some of the most amazing memories, friends and mentors and it has shaped a lot of my personal character. Having to work with others to accomplish a common goal teaches you to value other people’s strengths and pushes you to be better communicator and collaborator. Cheering is something that has become ingrained in every aspect of my life. In the off season I help coach a youth all star squad and make sure to tumble three times a week. I also grew up watching college football and going to games and I could never take my eyes off the cheerleaders. They…
My partner of eleven years is my greatest cheerleader. When I feel overwhelmed and depressed she gives me encouragement to conquer every challenge I’m faced with. In addition to my partner, another influential person in my life is a co-worker and friend. She fills the maternal role that is absent in my life, by giving me advice, different perspectives, and confidence. My career plays a vital role in my resilience, it gives me cause to wake up and achieve greatness each day. The children I work with inspire me to be a better educator, nurturer, and caregiver. When I am feeling depressed nothing lifts my spirits speedier, than my students. I believe it is a gift to have the availability to focus on constructing children’s strengths, rather than…
Obviously, since that day and age, it has extremely evolved. All- Star cheerleading now consists of a two minute and thirty second routine that includes stunting, tumbling, jumps, and a dance. All of this must be performed without flaws, so that your team may receive a higher score than your opponent. The sport of cheerleading requires stamina, strength, extreme flexibility, and very advanced coordination. Therefore, years and years of training are required to perform on a high level team.…
I’ve been a competitive cheerleader for the last seven years, and I can’t imagine doing any other sport. I’ve been a part of the Maryland Twisters cheerleading organization for three years, and as soon as I sat in on one of Eye of the Storms, the special needs team, practice I wanted to be a part of the team. After watching Eye of the Storm practice, I was amazed at the hard work and determination the athletes. I wanted to experience the love of cheerleading with these inspiring athletes. As soon as the new cheerleading year started, I spoke with the owner of Maryland Twisters about helping out with their special needs teams, Eye of the Storm and Storm Chasers. I was thrilled when she said the other coaches would love the extra help with the teams.…
Cheerleaders are hardcore. Being able to flip through the air and land a front flip is not something most traditionally accepted athletes can say they can for themselves. Sure, a 250lb football player can run into another man at high speeds without blinking, but cheerleaders can throw another human being in the air and then catch them. Still, cheerleaders are recognized on a lower scale, and many do not even believe cheerleading is a sport. This is an important topic to discuss because all athletes deserve and receive a lot of respect. If a cheerleader is not considered an athlete, it is possible that these men and women who cheer could feel degraded or worthless. Cheerleaders are athletes because athletes rigorously train their bodies to get better, master the skills that go into their sport,…
Most people think cheerleading is a bunch of girls and guys dancing and throwing girls in the air. Although that’s what it seems like, there are more than that, there are stunts, tumbling, chants, dances, and skills. A sport is an activity including physical, mental, and skill. Cheerleading needs physical, mental, skill, memory, and flexibility. Cheerleading is a sport because it takes time and dedication. Therefore cheerleading is considered a sport and will be in the 2020 Olympics. There are national cheerleading competitions all the time in different places all around the United States, and cheerleaders take their own time, money, dedication, and teamwork towards the sport. Some may say cheerleading isn’t a sport because it doesn’t…
People of all ages can teach us something, we just have to be ready to listen.…
I hated to leave them there but I can’t be late for class. I kept running and my eyes were focused behind me to make sure none of the cheerleaders were following me, luckily they weren’t but I wasn’t paying attention to where I was going. The second I looked in front of me, I ran into a girl carrying a ton of books. I ended up tackling her and everything she was carrying fell to the ground. I jumped to my feet and helped the girl stand, “Oh my god, I’m so sorry. Are you ok?” I asked while picking up her books. The girl nodded and grabbed her folders and notebooks that fell out of her backpack. I looked at the girl, she had long brown hair that was up in a ponytail, there were purple glasses resting on her face. She wore a grey jacket, black…
Cheerleading IS a team sport. It all started in 6th grade, when my best friend, Kiara at recess told me that I should do mini cheer camp wit her this year. A week or so after I hear the office say in the announcements that there was mini cheer camp sign up sheets in the office. Kiara and I got signed up. A couple weeks after mini cheer camp started, and I loved it! I learned all the cheers so quickly, I could already do most of the stretches. There was this one special cheer leader that stood out to me because she was so nice and great at cheer, She told me that i should try out for the Middle School cheer leading, and that’s when I got the idea to try out. My aunt was also a cheerleader and convinced me to become a cheerleader. My best friend,…
Above all, I look forward to increasing my leadership skills, but without a starting point, I would have never become the leader I am today. I have been a cheerleader for five…
An ambassador is defined as a person who acts as a representative or promoter of a specified activity. As Cheerleaders, the word “ambassadors” takes on a whole new meaning. On the sidelines, in the classroom and the community. We are looked at to represent our school always, not just on the field. We are not representing just one specific activity we are representing our school as a whole. We are one of the most visible student athletes. Cheerleaders are being watch constantly and should set an example for other students. By being a varsity cheerleader it has taught me to always be on my best behavior because you never know who is watching. We are looked up to by so many people both young and old. I coach youth cheerleading and the amount…
I was in sports for my whole life, cheerleading specifically. I was always with my team, staying after school, and going to games. After I started high school though things changed cheer became a lot less about your skill level and a lot more about who you knew and how well you could suck up to the coach. The coach of the cheer team hated me she would set me aside from all the other girls and constantly poke fun at me and pick out my short comings. I would go home from practice everyday and cry to my mom. I would have horrible anxiety about going to practice and pretty soon everything that happened at cheer became my fault. I knew I was a pretty good cheerleader and constantly tried my hardest. For some reason it still wasn’t good enough. I…
To be a cheerleader, you have to go to practice just like any other athlete. Cheerleaders have vigorous practices just like football. Competitive cheerleading is a sport that includes strength. For a person to be a cheerleader, you must be in shape and flexible because in a cheerleading routine you need to be able to tumble, stunt, jump, and dance without stopping for the entire two minutes and thirty…
I had been overwhelmed with the thought of cheer tryouts coming up. Completely submerged in the routines, trying to perfect every step. Thinking about tryouts worried me more than anything. I stayed cool, calm, and collected around my friends so that I didn’t stress them out any more than they already were. Every girl, whose goal was to be on the team, was on edge, waiting for that day. I knew that being a cheerleader on the varsity team was what I wanted most, and I was doing anything and everything in my power to make sure I was ready.…
