Personal Narrative: A Career As A Cheer Coach
People of all ages can teach us something, we just have to be ready to listen.
My cheer coach has helped me and taught me how to be my best and persevere when times are tough because bad things always happen, it is unavoidable, but giving up is definitely avoidable. I don’t really remember the first two years of her being my coach as I was only around 4 years old at the time. I loved dance and gymnastics with her, she always made me want to practice, even though I wasn’t the greatest at the time. She made everything fun, but eventually I wanted to quit. I don’t remember why, and I really wish I hadn’t now. I gave up, which is something now that I am older I was taught is never the best solution. Later on I decided I wanted to do cheer. It was the end of the year in fourth grade, I have been doing cheer camps science before I quit gymnastics and I really wanted to tryout for MYF Cheer. My brothers played for MYF football and every game I would alway watch the cheerleaders. It was so fascinating to me, so I was set on trying out at least. I didn’t

Even though we do these every practice, coming of a break is hard to get back into doing the conditioning especially for a fifth grader who isn’t use to doing this much work. It was absolute torture and it still is, but I understand why it is now. Going through my first and second season it got easier, I got stronger and doing the intense routines got easier over time. Even though the worst thing to ever hear is, “full out” which means going through the whole routine with all of the tumbling, stunts, jumps, and the whole dance portion. This is even worse when we already had to do it three times in a row and we are already exhausted. But when it comes time for competition, all she has done for us helps out so much, and we can be proud of how we

She is the person that has helped me not only to become a better athlete, but also a better student. B.R. has made a huge impact on my life because I have become a better person because of her. She is one of the only coaches that I have ever had that genuinely cares what kind of people that her players are off of the court. She teaches us to be respectful and caring, while maintaining our grades in school. When I transferred to West at the beginning of my sophomore year, B.R. was the first person to welcome me. She helped me with the transition and made me feel at home with the team. She has also been very supportive with me and some of the health problems that I have had. I have been having knee and joint pain for the past two years and was recently diagnosed with Idiopathic Rheumatoid Arthritis. The process to finding a diagnoses was a long one, but B.R. was there for me through the whole thing. She was always the first person to ask how everything was going and how I was…

For the past four years, I’ve been captain of my all-star cheerleading team. My teammates are a diverse group of girls, ranging from ten to seventeen years old. Working with a large age group has made me a more patient person. It takes more time and effort to answer a ten-year-old’s question, than a question from a fifteen or sixteen-year-old. I also must be willing to take my time when explaining parts of routines, because everyone learns and understands at different speeds and levels. Along with this patience, I have developed an ability to comfort people. Younger team members often become frustrated by challenging tumbling passes and stunts, when this happens I intervene. I comfort them by providing much needed aid, not solving the problem…

In order to accurately describe myself, I need to relate my personal learning style—described best with the letters ENFP, also known as the campaigner—with a significant personal experience in my life. The personal experience that I endured should create an meaningful explanation for my personality type. For six (6) years of my life, I was a very passionate cheerleader. I completed four (4) years during my high school career and two (2) years during my time spent in middle school. During my senior year of high school, I was chosen as the Jeannette High School Cheerleading Captain. After receiving the personal learning style of ENFP (Extraversion, Intuition, Feeling, and Perception) and the assignment for this essay, I immediately thought of…

Spring show is just a small showcase of all the dances we have done throughout the year and anyone was welcome to come and watch. Leading up to the show we didn't really practice much because we already knew our dances like the back of our hands so we only had practice the week of. Practice was good that week except for the last day, on the day of spring show, Kaitlyn Underwood decided not to show up to practice in the morning. Everyone was trying to call her but about halfway through practice my coach decided to just take her out of every dance and change everything. It was super stressful for all the girls on the team considering that the show was that night and we only had an hour to practice all the new changes. Everything worked out by the show and our routines actually looked pretty good considering the circumstances. I also got awarded freshman of the year because of my determination and improvement I showed throughout the season. My coach that year also quit which was probably for the best, even though she was a great person she didn't really know how to be a good coach which was…

My partner of eleven years is my greatest cheerleader. When I feel overwhelmed and depressed she gives me encouragement to conquer every challenge I’m faced with. In addition to my partner, another influential person in my life is a co-worker and friend. She fills the maternal role that is absent in my life, by giving me advice, different perspectives, and confidence. My career plays a vital role in my resilience, it gives me cause to wake up and achieve greatness each day. The children I work with inspire me to be a better educator, nurturer, and caregiver. When I am feeling depressed nothing lifts my spirits speedier, than my students. I believe it is a gift to have the availability to focus on constructing children’s strengths, rather than…

In 5th grade I was on the best team in the OFA. The coaches were nice and mean but I didn't care. The hard practices did make me better I slammed a 6th grader bigger than me. At football practice the coaches made us run pole to pole which means we all run like 400 yards. At every football practice I got hurt in some way. I was relieved, the only problem I had of not being in shape could be easily solved by running in the morning before school. The only thing I needed was my parent’s permission. And since I really had my mind on making and joining the track team this year, I really needed this “OK” from my parents to put my plan in effect. After dinner, each of my family members went up to their own individual room to finish their work for the whether it be homework or simply chores. As soon as the schoolwork on my desk was…

I recall being the youngest girl, cheering with others several years older than me, when I began Area Youth Football cheerleading way back at the age of five. I had tried other sports such as soccer and basketball, however they didn't electrify me as cheerleading did. I instantly fell in love with the sport of cheerleading. To this day, I would not even consider changing my commitment to cheerleading, for it has positively influenced my life and taught me countless lessons that will stick with me forever.…
