A Cheerleader: A Short Story
I had been overwhelmed with the thought of cheer tryouts coming up. Completely submerged in the routines, trying to perfect every step. Thinking about tryouts worried me more than anything. I stayed cool, calm, and collected around my friends so that I didn’t stress them out any more than they already were. Every girl, whose goal was to be on the team, was on edge, waiting for that day. I knew that being a cheerleader on the varsity team was what I wanted most, and I was doing anything and everything in my power to make sure I was ready.
Monday and Tuesday we had practices to learn the cheer, the chant, and the most hated dance. The chant was easy, and everyone learned it in minutes. The cheer was long, and the steps were awkward. Everyone

As the days go by I feel your light dimming and it breaks my heart. Laura Diaz words cannot explain what you mean to me and as the clock ticks down I'm realizing more and more what I'm losing when you are gone. First, I'm losing a cheerleader. No matter what I did you were always there to cheer me on even ifI didn't reach the finish line you were there to comfort me and remind me to keep going. Second, I'm losing my game show partner. People can only imagine how many nights we had competing against each other. If it was not jeopardy then it was idiotically or wheel of fortune. After a summer full of early morning workouts and endless hours in a stuffy gym, the week of tryouts was finally here. As I shuffled into the gym early Monday morning, I had no idea what I was getting into. Little did I know that this would be a week of high school volleyball tryouts that included: conditioning, drills, and scrimmages. By the time Friday rolled around, I was physically and emotionally drained. Surrounded by older, more experienced players, I was sure that this was the beginning of the end. When I was selected to become a part of the team, I was overwhelmed with pride knowing that I had succeeded where others had fallen short. Although some of the characters in Tennessee Williams's Cat on a Hot Tin Roof were able to aggrandize through the pride they had gained throughout life, others fell short of this success and instead spent time drowning themselves in reminiscence and rum.…

Cheer is not just a sport. It is intense physical activity with a purpose- to serve as a motivation for the team. Taking two full sport seasons, the dedication and energy required from these young cheerleaders is unbelievable. For up to 2 1/2 hours a day, they work together to achieve their goal: perfect routines to make the Hilltop Football and Basketball teams engulf in victories. These devoted cheerleaders spent 3 days at Cheer Camp and one day at the District Camp, where they expanded their knowledge and creativity for our school. However, these days spent were not for competition, but for learning from each other. Still, their natural competitive nature filled their minds and actions, self-motivating them to execute their best efforts…

Now if you’ll excuse me, i’m taking your man, and later the title of ‘cheer captain’” I grabbed Isaac's hand and turned away from her walking to the tops of the bleachers. “You’re a fiery little thing aren't you?” He laughed and laid his arm around my shoulders. Asriel looked up at us and stared, as I smiled and grabbed his hand making sure she could see. “You know, she's always jealous. Even when no one does anything wrong. It drives me insane.” he frowned a bit and i felt my heart drop. “You should change that Isaac, you’re handsome, so smart, athletic and funny. You deserve so much more. She’s a witch, to you and everyone else.” I turned to look at him and he was already staring at me. “I- i’m sorry if i offended you Isac, it’s ju-” He cut…

    Essay On NFL Cheerleaders

In the past three years, the NFL has faced a multitude of lawsuits dealing with the unfair payment of NFL cheerleaders. Multiple different articles support the cheerleaders, agreeing that an average of a $1,000 salary each year is unfair. However, other articles are against a higher payment, claiming that cheerleaders work because they enjoy the sport, rather than for the money. While Megan McArdle’s article, “NFL Cheerleaders Don’t Do it for the Money” uses informal diction, comparisons to other jobs, and concession to the opposition to support the claim that the cheerleaders do not deserve to be paid more, “Who Do We Under-Compensate?”, by Ira Boudway, uses a more formal diction, statistics, and concession to the other side of the argument to support the opposite.…

My partner of eleven years is my greatest cheerleader. When I feel overwhelmed and depressed she gives me encouragement to conquer every challenge I’m faced with. In addition to my partner, another influential person in my life is a co-worker and friend. She fills the maternal role that is absent in my life, by giving me advice, different perspectives, and confidence. My career plays a vital role in my resilience, it gives me cause to wake up and achieve greatness each day. The children I work with inspire me to be a better educator, nurturer, and caregiver. When I am feeling depressed nothing lifts my spirits speedier, than my students. I believe it is a gift to have the availability to focus on constructing children’s strengths, rather than…

In my opinion I think that Cheerleading should be a competitive sport because cheerleaders work as hard as all other sport players do. For example cheerleaders show muscle, athleticism and agility when practicing and cheering at games. Cheerleaders show muscle because they lift other people they throw and stack people on top of other people to make a pyramid. They show Agility because when doing cheers they have to make sharp and quick movements with their hands and their feet. I don’t think that it’s fair that cheerleading isn’t a competitive sport because it doesn’t involve a ball. That is why I think that cheerleading is just as much as a sport than any other…

By definition, cheerleading is a sport involving the performance of organized cheering, chanting, and dancing in support of a sports team at games. When a person thinks of the word ‘sport’ their minds go to the big three: baseball, basketball, and football. Webster’s dictionary defines a sport as “an activity involving physical exertion and skill in which an individual or team competes against another or others for entertainment.” Most activities are either a sport or they are not. It’s simple, but there is one that tends to confuse people, cheerleading. People cannot agree on whether cheerleading takes on the task of being a sport. A reason some people may not know might be a result of them not understanding cheer.…

Freshman year my best friend and I made an impulse decision to go to the high school cheer clinic. As a way to make friends and to make both are moms happy, since they were both cheerleaders . After the first day of clinic we were both hooked. Cheerleading to most is full of popular girls that are selfish, snobby, and don't have a sense of morality. But to me and my team we are nothing like that. My team is a mismatched group of girls that found a love in cheering on other sport teams. Spending upwards of 8 hours with the same twenty six girls a week makes anybody to become incredibly close and that is what I have gotten to. We may fight but, with these groups of girls my life would of never been the same. We are all there for eachother no…

Days passed and I couldn't stop talking about the auditions. I could not wait for the day to come when they would announce who had or had not made the team. Eventually the big day arrived and I was suddenly in tune with the nervousness I had repressed all week. My best friend reassured me, reminding me that if I am supposed to be on the team, then I will make the cut, I tried to take her words into consideration until finally the hour arrived when they would announce my fate. I rushed to get to the dance court, sweat dripping from my body, nerves kicking in and my heart beating fast. I felt as if I was suffocating while anxiously listening for my name. The captain began calling out the names of those who made the team, and just as I was expecting her to say mine, I hear, “Unfortunately, I’m sorry to say that two people did not make the team this year.’’…

On the day of our tournament game we had a pep rally at the High School, everyone in town was invited, families, friends, anyone who wanted to come support us in this huge game. The sound of the cheers echoed through the halls like yodelers shouting off of mountain tops. During the pep rally the cheerleaders did many cheers and everyone in the gym joined in on them, making the hairs stand up on each and everyone’s necks. As cheer practice approached, I was thinking about how I would have to sacrifice my day to go and help a bunch of middle school cheerleaders. I then got ready to go to the school and reality struck hard when I realized that some people aren’t able to get help from an experience cheerleader as myself. That was the moment I started caring about the other cheerleaders and became determined to help them improve in their cheering. I was getting ready to go help the cheerleaders when all of a sudden it started to pour. Rain flooded the roads and wind whipped the trees, but I was determined to complete my task. My dad drove me to the school and from there I help them with a few cheers.…
