I looked day and night because I knew what my grandmother had told me was right. If I wanted things, I had to be independent and get it myself because no one else would do it for me. I eventually found a job at McDonald’s and began to save up my money so I could reach other goals. After saving up enough money, I bought a car. I began to then buy all the little things that I wanted. The feeling of independency was great. I didn’t have to ask my mother or my grandmother for anything. I got it all on my own and I was extremely proud of myself. I applied my grandmother’s aphorism of being independent because I knew adult was coming quickly. I needed to prepare myself for something great. I would soon be on my own, and I would have no one to rely on but myself. Personal responsibility is something I feel is a problem for most students. Webster defines responsibility as moral, legal, or mental accountability, (" Merriam-Webster", 2013). In the weeks leading up to this easy, I started to see how unreasonable I was towards my school work. With twenty four hours in the day, I was having a huge problem with using that time wisely. Procrastination is my down fall, looking at an assignment, thinking oh I have plenty of time to get this done. I found out I was sorely mistaken. Personal responsibility should be taking accountability for my own actions, and doing everything within my power to complete my goal. There are many things in my life that can come between me, and my school work. Things that I let get in the way would be, my fifty hour work week, my family, and my military service. All of these are very important to me, but at the same time finishing collage is equally important. There are lots of other things in life that can get in the way as well, but looking at the consequences help stay focused on what is important.…

As a teenager, my parents let me make most of my own decisions; I had some rules but for the most part I could do what I wanted. I think growing up like this made me more responsible. I knew I had my freedom but I also knew that if I got in trouble it would all get taken away. I think that this is the case for most children that have some boundaries. In time children learn how to be responsible and take responsibility for their actions. If children have strict rules they are not able to do anything, therefore, they could rely on their parents to take care of all their problems and if children had zero rules they would never get in trouble by their parents so they would not have to make smart decisions. Being responsible and making smart decisions is an effect of having parents who have a reasonable number of…
