Personal Reflective Report
I worked closely with my supervisor and attending various meetings in which my supervisor was in charge so that helped me to have a better understanding of the LAPD’s organization. Also, I received weekly feedback from my supervisor on progress so that helped me to monitor my progress and to have a better idea on how to prepare myself to achieve my goals and also promote the LAPD goal, mission, and vision.

By going to leadership academy and a leadership conference, I realized there are different ways to lead different people. Realizing this is crucial because I cannot approach someone in a situation the same way I did with another person, I learned how to talk to certain people based on their personality.…

We started the session with an icebreaker which was very specific. I found this very challenging as I wanted to say more than the one point that was allowed. The ‘Get/Give’ activity was very thought provoking as it allowed me to really think about what it was I actually wanted from the course and what I felt I could contribute to the course. Sue explained very clearly that the assessment tasks should be related to my subject, learners and environment. This I found a very useful piece of information and will try to remember this while writing assessments. We then looked at reflective practice and between us came up with a definition. It is about describing what we have done and then acting upon it. We then looked at each section of a reflective journal and thought about what we would write in each section. I chose ‘What surprised me was...’ To this I answered that I was surprised by the fact that a lot of the skills I already have can be transferred into teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector.…

The abilities an individual possesses are an accumulation of their previous life experiences and the various competences which have been practiced for many years. Often times, these skills are overlooked and taken for granted as we never actually think about them in terms of their effect on our potential career choices. After thinking about my personal skills, I compiled a list which included; communication, cooperation, patience, listening, helping others and perseverance; all skills which I have possessed for majority of my lifetime and have used to overcome many challenges. One example in particular which required me to draw on many of these skills, was fairly recently; I am a dance instructor for children ages four to seven and there was a young boy who joined the class later than the rest of the students. I noticed that he was struggling…

This semester in English 101 has been very demanding for me. In previous years, I generally completed my writing assignments with ease and without having to put much thought or effort into them, but this year, I was required to work for many hours on each of my papers and to proofread them many times in order to receive a good grade. For example, I learned that if I wanted to reach my audience, I had to organize my paper in such a way that everyone could easily understand the organization and the logic behind my ideas. Furthermore, for the first time in my high school career, I welcomed and appreciated the feedback of my peers as a tool that could help with the drafting of my academic papers. I chose to examine three articles from my portfolio…

Walking into Roosevelt Elementary the first day of clinicals was one of the most overwhelming experiences I faced over the course of the semester. I was a brand-new nursing student with not a lot of experience, who lacked confidence and feared the thought of working with children. This past few weeks of clinicals have been a completely different experience. Over the past nine weeks I believe I have grown exponentially with my skills as a nursing student. I am confident in working with clients of all age ranges, utilizing therapeutic communication, educating clients on health care topics and hands on skills including vital signs, blood glucose, vision screening and peripheral artery disease screening. I believe the two biggest changes I made…

Self motivated, industrious, dedicated, determine and God fearing individual are attributes that reflects my own characteristics. My religious background began in the Church of God in Christ where the Old Testament was the primary teachings that shaped my life’s values and forms. Upon publicly stating that I believed in Jesus Christ and that He died for my sins, I was baptized and thereafter considered “saved and sanctified.” This is one of the factors besides culture, my Sunday school teacher and family that lead me to believe that “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” Pursuing my doctoral degree is one of the things that will shape my future in helping me to be an effective leader. This personal reflection encompasses several areas of my past and current life. The elements of discussion include early influences for engagement in a doctoral program, level of preparedness and current higher education position, anticipated outcomes of the program, and life beyond the PhD and advanced studies.…

Within the 6-year experience in providing the palliative care for the patient with cerebral palsy I became confident in communicating with other health professionals to discuss patient's health status and to develop the most appropriate treatment for the patient. I have also developed self-confidence and empathy towards others during the 4-year experience in customer service, while working as a bartender. Interacting with customers during busy night-shifts provided me with an opportunity to develop problem solving and stress management skills, and to learn acting patient and calm in uncomfortable situations. My social skills further developed during my trip around the world. Travelling introduced me to a range of different cultures and improved my ability to communicate with individuals of different…
