Personal Narrative: The Gym Game
It was a cold winter night, with dirty brown snow covering parts of the St. Bernard parking lot. I was very nervous as I entered the gym because this was our first time as an A team being in the finals of a tournament. Plus we always got crushed by St. I’s, but this game we came up with a new strategy that would shut down their whole offence.
That night the only thing I was focused on was beating St. I’s, we played them in our first game of the season and they beat us by forty points. Our whole team knew it was unacceptable to lose by that much and we were tired of them getting the bragging rights. We acted like the warm ups was the real game, we had perfect form on our lay ups and made all of our shots. We were even making all of our free throws which was funny because we are absolute trash at shooting free throws, that right there showed everyone in the gym how badly we wanted to win this game.
Them the buzzer went

I’s ran down the court confused, they had never seen us play a three two befor. They did their normal pass and go play, but this time we picked the ball off almost every time driving it down the court and scoring. The way we were playing gave us huge confidence and a 20 point lead at halftime. The second half was by far the toughest half. Our opponents came out with fire in there eyes wanting to grasp the beautiful trophy at the end of the game, but we didn’t let that happen. St. I’s ended up hitting three pointers left and right. It almost seemed like they couldn't be stopped until our coach told us to go man to man defense. After that game saving decision they didn't make a single three that whole quarter and they trailed us by 6 points going into the final quarter. Now our team was anxious all we wanted was to win. We came out in the fourth quarter on top, settling for short jump shots instead of threes which we had a hard time making that game. Coach told us to calm down, we have this game in our hands, just try to take time off the

UConn continued their outstanding play behind forward Katie Lou Samuelson, and guard, Saniya Chong. The two were unstoppable, as they led the Huskies to a 67 percent field goal percentage at the half. It was a home game, the last game of region play, and the author talks about how tensions were running high between the two teams and the two crowds. It goes on to talk about how easily they defeated the rabbits by playing an unselfish game, and ended in victory defending the title from the west side for another year. The article talks about how amazing each of the senior players were this year, and how they were superstars on and off the court. “They led their team through the example of kindness and positive attitudes,” the article goes on to say. Now it's time for tip-off. Blazers are leading at the end of the 1st quarter 31-21. I figured the Cavs would be winning. Starting the second the Cavs went on a run and went up 49-38 but Damian Lillard had 31 points and 5 assists. Now my dad and I go throw away the devoured popcorn and find are seats again. Starting the third they went back and forth with baskets but the Trail blazers finally managed to tie it going into the fourth 78-78. Starting the fourth Damian Lillard makes a off-balance three and the whole crowd erupts. We kept that momentum and won 111-97. Damian Lillard had 51 points and 10 assists. It was crazy. Afterwards my dad and I were walking back to the car and saw Damian Lillard. I had him sign my jersey it was awesome. I told him thank you. It was sad to have to go home. Not only leaving the awesome game but it will take…

It wasn’t until late in the second period another goal was scored. Again, Cholowski assisted but this time Blake Winiecki stifled UMD perfectly placing the puck through Miska’s pads, putting the Huskies up 3-1. Next after peppering Driscoll, Dominic Toninato finally smashed the puck in with only 83 seconds left in period number two supplying UMD their second goal. Halfway through the third a crucial part of the game UMD defenseman Carson Soucy dashed his way down the ice on a breakaway letting go a ripper that shocked St Cloud State tying the 3-3. Then with only 5 minutes remaining forward Parker Mackay completed the stunning comeback by scoring UMD’s 4th goal of the game. SCSU made a majestic effort but came up short when after the Huskies pulled their goalie Carson Soucy swiped the puck in the empty net sealing the game with a Bulldogs 5-3 win. As legendary coach Herb Brooks stated “gentleman the legs feed the wolf” meaning any team can win the first two periods but it really comes down to which team is better conditioned in the third period. The team who is will 9 times out of 10 win the…

The team would always get there an hour early so we could stretch and hit in the cage. We were noticeably the best team in the tournament. The coach of the team was a smart guy, he wanted to win but he didn’t want to embarrass anybody. This game didn’t really mean anything, and not to mention we were playing the worst team there.…

After the game was over we went and got ice cream for the whole team. We all chose our favorite ice cream then devoured our ice creams as a team. Our second game was against the former coach for UNA, Jason Anderson. Coach Anderson was the original coach who offered me a scholarship to UNA. The tension was high, due to familiar faces. We ended up having to play them twice and we beat them both times. After winning all four games we reached the Championship series. Humbolt, from New York, was our biggest obstacle we had to face. The team with the best two out of three wins was to be named the National Champs. The first game we played, we lost to Humbolt. The loss hit us hard and our spirits were down. All season we had not faced a pitcher that shut us down completely. Walking to the locker room after that loss, felt as if we had already became runner up in the Championship series. Beating Humbolt twice the next day, seemed to be an impossible task. We sat in silence as tears ran down our faces. Our coaches let us cry and let us get our emotions out. She knew the pressure we felt and the adversity that was staring us in the face. After 30 minutes of silence, one of the players brought up the games we had to play against UAH. Another player mentioned the victory against Valdosta, and we were instantly reminded that we were capable of anything. We knew that all of the hard work we had put in was not going to waste. We were not going to settle for anything else but a National…

She said, “Despite it being our first game in all, we played well. We ran plays smoothly and all worked well together. We definitely will be working on zone defense and rebounding, because during the game we really lacked those skills. The junior varsity played just as well even though they are the youngest team we’ve had for ten years. Coach pushes us to work hard every practice, and that’s what we all need in order to reach the next level and win our games.”…
