Personal Narrative: My Journey To North Cape
Getting asked “What school do you go to”, I answer “North Cape”. They then look with a confused smirk and ask “Where’s that”
“In the middle of nowhere, between Franksville and Union Grove” I answer.
To me, it's almost as if it's a famous line I’ve made, because of how many times I answer that question. Attending a small school for now 5 years, I understand that most kids at my age go to a larger middle school with a graduating class of approximately 200-300 kids in their class, but going to a large school, teachers don't have time to spend on a specific individual for many things, and i find myself lucky to get that at North Cape. Going through many situations and conflicts at North Cape led me in temporary unfortunate paths, but greatly impacted my reason to try and change to become a more successful individual in my education and life that made a permanent change. It all started 7th grade year, I wasn't trying, it was as simple as that, until I received a suspension that was for an unnecessary conflict. I then had decided to try and get good grades, and do something worth my time and put a smile on my family’s face, and because of the decision, things got better and made me felt better as a person, and made me realize I’m not only doing this for my family, I'm doing it for myself. Departing the B and C’s for A’s, had made me think of

Getting to see everybody everyday can get tiring, in which you want out, but realizing that I'm going to actually graduate in 15 days, it makes me think of all the good times and how I’m going to miss not going to the same school as my brother, and having to make new bonds with new people nonstop and getting new teachers every year that could care more than others or not care as much, and to me 90% of a teacher's job, is caring for their

Throughout my life, I experienced many events that would make most people unable to function socially, emotionally, or academically. These events include two divorces, five house relocations, and a transfer to a new high school during senior year. I consistently failed assignments and could not stay focused during class as my . Most teenagers would have given up here as the disappointment from both their parents and teachers would have destroyed their hopes for a successful future. However, this anguish became a catalyst for what would become a significant restructuring in both my demeanor towards schoolwork and my perspective on the future. Against all odds I was able to bounce back from the discouragement I had faced. I believe that this…

As I got older and got into high school, things got really ugly my freshman year. Hanging out with the wrong crowd changed my whole perspective on school and how I should apply my knowledge to school work. I can honestly say that my highest grade was probably a C out of the whole year. The beginning of my life changing didn’t take place till my sophomore year when I met my older cousin who decided to be hard on me in school. Part of that was him keeping me into football and other sports he thought I would be good in. It wasn’t till junior year in high school where I really took football…

The first time I ever went to Cape Fear River was on July 10 2014. I begged my parents to let me go that morning and finally they said “ pack up your clothes and all the sleeping gear so we can go and you can be quite.’’ I called my buddies and they all said meet y’all there at the Lock Dam 3. We went to the farm and got our 14 foot War Eagle Jon boat. We left the house around twelve o’clock and we took off for Walmart to buy some delicious steaks, soft bread and some crickets to fish with. We meet one of my buddies in the walmart parking lot. He was buying some comfortable sleeping bags and a blow up mattress to slip inside the tent so we wouldn’t have to sleep on that cold, hard sand. We took off to the river with our tall trucks and meet everyone down there at the dam.…

Two short years ago I made a decision that would shape my entire future and mold me into the person I always had hoped to be. It was an irrational decision, made purely on assumptions, and naivety. I decided to join an Agricultural & Environmental Science class during the start of my junior year. Prior to entering the program, I had a very sparse knowledge of agriculture and placed little value on the subject. I was simply enthralled just to be apart of a class that would allow me to study animals, and gain hands on experience. However, little did I know, that the moment I was accepted into this Agricultural class, my entire life would change. For two years now, I have been blessed to immerse myself in my Agricultural program, and FFA chapter.…

It all started when we left from the hotel around five o’clock, hoping to get to the CN Tower on time. We were on vacation in Toronto in mid July, we had just arrived here a day ago from Niagara Falls. When we left we would have never imagined that this would be one of the longest walks some of us have taken. Pleasantly, we left for the CN Tower, which we thought couldn’t be a great amount of distance from our hotel. We were wrong!…

This Friday my family decided to go on a two week road trip to Canada with various stopovers in between, while I’m stuck at home alone because of school. At first my parents wanted me to go with them, but I had to decline because missing two weeks’ worth of school is basically saying you want to fail the semester. I am kind of bummed that I couldn’t make it to the trip but, I’m also kind of excited to be home alone for two weeks. This is by far the longest I would be left alone and having to ration my money for the two weeks. It’s good practice for college once I transfer out and head off to a dorm or rent an apartment. So far the only thing different I’ve noticed about my solitary life compared to life with my family is that I have a lot…

The first obstacle I had to overcome was the disappointment I had in myself. When I learned the extent of my dismissal from the Santa Rosa Junior College, I felt so many different emotions: I was shocked, upset, angry and understanding, all at the same time. I knew I had put myself in this position due to my not-so-dedicated semesters in the past, but now that I was serious about my education, I had a mess to clean up in order to continue at Santa Rosa Junior College. When I met with a counselor and learned all the steps I had to take in order to get myself out of this mess, I had to attend a probation/dismissal workshop, take a counseling class, and appeal my financial aid; I was stressed beyond belief. At first, I started questioning myself and doubting that I could recover from this. I took some time to think about my options and to determine if school was really what I wanted. After some time and a few discussions, I decided that I was up for the challenge. I knew that this is where I wanted to be, and that I was going to do what I needed to make this goal become reality.…

I was the type of student to do the bare minimum and do whatever it takes just to get by. Going into this senior year I thought it was going to be a breeze but I've been wrong before. This senior year has taught me that if I want to be successful in my life then I need to give it my all just like Jesus commanded us too. This past summer I started to look into colleges I would be interested in playing football for. I found a few schools in Wisconsin that interested me so me and my mother drove 28 hours in a Prius to go visit 4 schools. During the trip I realized that college is closer than it seems. College is not just something we dream of one day but it is the next step in our lives. I am extremely excited for what God holds for me in the future and am ready to face life's challenges. High school is a lot of pressure but we all will look back one day and remember the good times of it. I am very thankful for the people in my life that have made me the man I am today. Finding the right college is going to a hard decision but I know God will put me at the place I need to be an I am very excited wherever that is going to…

Looking at the key events of my life, I know I would not have made the same decisions if I lived in the Colonial period. In my life, I have decided to get a divorce before my 30th birthday. This decision would not have been acceptable if I lived in the colonial era. In the text book, it states that in colonial, “Marriage for them was a practical arrangement that was considered necessary for civilization, not a source of love and affection” (Cohen, 2015, p. 41). In other words, married couples would have stayed together even if they did not have love for each other. I would not have the options to divorce because I would not get the help from families or the state. I probably would not have a lot of choices deciding to get divorces because the…

When it comes to spending time outdoors, my family prevails over all others. My dad sees every opportunity for a camping, hiking, canoeing, anything-outdoors trip and seizes it. Ever since I was old enough to walk, we have been traveling to visit national parks and hiking trails. I always enjoy camping with my family, but sometimes these trips don’t go as intended.…

I can still remember the first couple incidents that happened to me that started to shift my path of life. On May 26, 2011 I graduated from high school. It was a day full of happiness, sadness, and anxiety. I planned on taking time off of school since I have been in it for about 12 years straight. I planned on taking lots of trips with my friends and just experiencing new things in the new world. I also knew that if I did go back right away I wouldn’t succeed to my full potential. I simply wasn’t ready. At my grad party, I got into an argument with my brother, because I was defending my cousin. It soon escalated into a full on brawl between me, my brother, my boyfriend at the time, my father, and some friends. I made my way from outside where everyone was yelling at each other into my room. My father stormed into my roomed, where he proceeded to keep yelling at me telling me how I always screw everything up and I felt so overwhelmed that I just wanted to leave. Every ounce of me tried to escape that mad house but he wouldn’t let me leave until the cops arrived. I packed up a few things and left to stay with my boyfriend. A couple of days later I went and got the…
