Personal Narrative: It's My Mom
Have you ever said you can’t do something and somebody always tells you, you can if you believe, well, that’s my mom. My mom was born December 22nd, 1982. She was adopted by my grandmother and she was the youngest child. My mom is very motivating when it comes to my siblings and I. I told my mom I was playing basketball but, I probably won’t make the team. After, I told her, she gave me a speech that lasted a while.I told my mom I would never grow and I hate myself for that. Then she gave me another long speech that took at least an hour. I told my mom I would have to get basketball shoes if I made the team. Before I told my mom I don’t think I will make the team. Then she said I would and she got me shoes earlier. My mom is very motivating, if you don’t …show more content…
We went to a little town that had arcades and restaurants. We went to the little town and played mini golf, drove go-karts, we ate, then we played arcades. We went hiking and shot a bee hive with a BB gun. Before, we all were hiking and we stumbled upon a bee hive. My younger brother had a BB gun and we all tried to shoot it, but, my mom was the only one to hit it. We went to a hiking place, before we hiked, we saw around eight bears. When we went to Tennessee, that took three years to get there, we had more than just memories, we had fun. My mom is very active and never lacks on things. Every Friday we go to the mall and get a shirt and shorts or pants and a hoodie. My mom works hard everyday so we can have nice things and eat food. If my mom has nothing to do she spends time with us. My brothers and I were playing basketball and my mom wasn’t doing anything so she played basketball with us. My mom cooks breakfast, lunch, and supper everyday when we’re at her house. Every morning we’re at her house we wake up and she is cooking breakfast. When my mom isn’t sleeping or at work she is either cleaning, cooking, or spending time with my siblings and

When it comes to school, I guess you could say that my mom was a bit of a nerd. She was extremely smart and exceeded in every class. She went to a Catholic school until fourth grade. She said, about this school, “Not much happened here, I was placed in Reading and Math groups by myself, and no, I was never hit with rulers over the knuckles by the nuns, if you were wondering.” In middle school, she was placed in an advanced class and by the time she left she was finished with all her required high school math classes. She was also inducted into the National Junior Honor Society where she held the office of Secretary. In high school, since she was a big nerd, she took college level math courses and AP in all other classes. She also played…

It is a typical day for me and my alarm just went off. I hop out of bed, go to the bathroom and then fix breakfast. Right afterwards I head over to my computer and go to my favorites tab. From here, I open multiple tabs all containing message boards to my favorite anime artists. Hours fly by as I sit there reading what everyone else had to say about a particular drawing, or how everyone had taken my post from last night. All throughout my surfing time I pop in a Hot Pocket or two; something quick with little mess. With the den a mess and my obsession still feeding, mom will be home soon. I know I should probably pick up after myself, but I think mom likes to clean. She does it every day. Instead of cleaning up, I decide to do a Google search looking for more fan sites. Now its five thirty and mom strolls in with her hands full of groceries. I acknowledge her with a simple greeting and then return to my screen. After putting the groceries up she walks into the den. With an irritated tone she simply says, “You couldn’t have picked up your food wrappers when you were done eating.” With a simple shrug and “I forgot,” I continue to surf through the pages. Moments later my mom comes back and sits down in the den, right behind me. I spin my chair around and she requests a moment to talk. The entire time we talked, the only thing I could hear was blah, blah, blah, until she ended her statement with, “Aren’t you ever going to grow up? You are doing the same things you were doing almost ten years ago in high school. You need higher education and a career. You can’t keep living like you’re fifteen.” I was speechless. Never had I stopped to think about what I was doing with myself, just kind of kept playing games. Where was I heading in life as a student, child, and citizen? I started looking for a job and wanted to apply for college, but I could not pull myself from my…

Now that I’m seventeen, I help my mom as much as I can when I get home from school by helping her clean, doing the laundry, etc. I wish I could do something economically now, but I’m positive I will in the future. She is my motivation to wake up every day and try my best with AP classes, extracurricular activities, and community service and hopefully become someone one day who will leave an impact on the world. I try to balance school and chores with a healthy mid set to complete all I have to do. I don’t mind doing any of this because it makes me feel content to know my mother doesn’t have as much pain tainted on her face. She believes that she has put too much work on my hands, but she doesn’t realize that these tribulations are helping me become an independent young woman who is realizing that she can accomplish anything in life. “Don’t worry. I can manage.” I tell…

The accident that almost killed me. And the person behind it, I was supposed to call “Mommy”. She doesn’t care nor has she ever taken ownership and always blamed my Dad and I. I was only 18 months old, how was I to know that crawling around in the back seat without a seat belt was dangerous. She’s the one who had foul liquor breath with words sharp like knives, that live on her tongue. I almost died and, consequently, I’m sure you can hear my resentment through my words but it’s how I feel. I blame her for so much. Such as my distorted self image. Because of the accident I have multiple scars and a completely re-arranged top row of teeth. I’m so scared to laugh or smile as a result from years of relentless cruel taunting. And it's so hard because…

It was a perfectly normal Saturday night, until I sat on the couch. I expected to enjoy a funny movie with my dad, but instead I got a trip to the hospital. I sat on the couch, and then I felt a sting in my elbow. At first, it felt like I got a shot at the doctor, but it slowly got worse, and felt more like a knife slicing into my elbow. I winced and sprung up from the couch. I squinted and my eyes scanned the spot where I just sat down. Aha, I thought. There was a small piece of plastic, and it looked like it broke off from a container.…

Growing up in a household of five I had many authority figures. Nonetheless, my mom always has been the final authority at home. Even today, what my mom says “goes” it doesn’t really matter your age or gender. When it comes to my family, my mom is the boss. It is no secret to those who are close to me that I allow my mother to take a lot of control in my decisions and actions. I am submissive only to my mother’s demands. It was not difficult for me to understand why I am this way. I was always told by my father and grandmother that my mother didn’t allow the lack of money to get in her way of giving me the best she could. As a new born she had a feeding schedule for me and was always attentive of my needs. Whether I cried for attention or hunger she was there to feed me or clean me up. She did everything in her power to give me a happy and calm environment and now I want to do that same for her. Although I must admit that allowing her to control me has giving me an obsession for freedom that terrifies me as well as a lack of commitment to anybody else but her.…

She told me that school was easy for her because she has been there and done that. She said she was also a teacher so she knew a little more than average people. Mom also said she missed her job and missed cooking. She now gave me my phone back and said, “I know now that it was my fault that you failed in all your classes but a miracle happened and magically you have all A’s now.” I checked my grades and I did have all A’s! I told my mom she is the coolest mom in the world! She retook the tests in every class and aced them all and my grades shot up. Even my gym class grade. I have no clue how she did that but she did. She must run pretty…

Over the months and the meetings I was with my mother interviewing her, I realized that we were very alike. People always claim that we are carbon copies of each other, but I didn’t know that we would have so many things in common just outside of physical characteristics. We talked about religion and what it really means to us and she like, me feels that in order for one to religious all he/she needs to do is believe in god. I also got to know my mother very well, including her background and what she went through growing up. My mother and I were close when I was in 9th and 10th grade; however, my junior year we drifted apart because my mother thought that I should always be studying and I thought the opposite. I wanted to explore during my junior year and since I am Indian, the expectation from me were different. My mother was also upset with me for most of my junior year because I failed my SAT and kept going out with my friends. Around the same time, I got my license, so I was independent from my parents having to drive me. I just started to hate being in my mother’s presence around that time because we would always get into fights. Then summer came and my mother started doing her MBA and everything and then we just stopped talking for a long time. Literally everyday I would come home and sit in my room. Then at the beginning of senior year, I was suffering with all the overload of classes I had taken, and I really needed that family support, which my mother gave me almost immediately. During this time did I realize that my mother just wanted the best for me and that she loved me despite what I did in school or standardized tests. Then I started to talk to her little by little about life and what she thought of it. I constantly asked her about her childhood and why she valued education so much. Then in January we were introduced to the project, which was great because I had the opportunity to take our relationship a step further. During my…

She regularly does the make-up of a popular concert star, who later on chose her as a personal make-up artist in a concert tour in the United States. While in America, she met her former classmate Helen (Beth Tamayo) who convinced Medy to stay in the country to be an illegal migrant worker. She decides to take Helen's offer, in hopes that working abroad will bring the prosperity her family seeks. Following her friend's suggestions, Medy works as a front desk operator at a children's drama studio. Medy quickly becomes a natural at her job, becoming a favorite among students, particularly with a young girl named Cherry. When Medy learns that her earnings are not enough to cover the medicine for her sick daughter, Queenie (Xyriel Manabat), she follows Helen's suggestion to work as a stay-in housekeeper for a couple who works as lawyers. While working for the couple, Medy endures verbal and physical abuse. She also is barred contact with her family in the Philippines, with the couple going so far as confiscating her passport from her, so she cannot leave. Medy endures the hardship in hopes of a better life for her family, and with the help of Cherry, the student in the dance studio who turned out to be the couple's daughter.
