Personal Narrative: Great Deer Hunting
Great Deer Hunt
I awoke to someone shaking me. I opened my eyes groggily and saw my dad. Today we were supposed to go on our week long hunting trip today. I sat up and rolled out of bed. I fell onto the floor and moaned. “What time is it? It must be like 2:00 in the morning.” I asked “You are pretty good at guessing. Hurry and get up so we can get an early start. Those deer won’t kill themselves,” my dad said. We had one week to kill seven deer. My dad had struck a deal with the owner of a private ranch that had over twelve hundred deer on his land. The owner could let anyone hunt on his land without a tag November through February. It was in the middle of January and could kill seven of any type of deer, doe or buck. We planned on hunting

We will not need it. They said they had a special surprise for you so you don’t need to bring it. The man meeting us is named Alma,” my dad said. As we neared the house I was surprised. It was a mansion in a 20,000 square foot clearing. We neared the house and I saw someone waiting on the porch and I couldn’t help but notice the Ranger. It had treads instead of tires and it had a 50 BMG mounted on the top. As we pulled up to the house the man stood up and sauntered out to us. “Hello, you must be Jason,” he asked me “Yes. Is that what we are using to shoot the deer?” I asked gesturing towards the Ranger. “Yep. It can blast a deer’s head clean off if you hit the neck in the right spot. We can change the bullets we use. There is a bullet that is my favorite that when you hit a rock it completely destroys it. Now we should get going.” “Yes. Where are we going? I studied the map and I was thinking we should go to the north corner of the ranch,” my dad said. “That would be a good place to start. Here is a pistol for each of you. The bears are very bad around the ranch these days. A security guard guarding the north entrance was attacked and almost killed. If you do see a bear shoot in the air and if it doesn’t run off start shooting at it. It will only kill it if you hit it the head. But that probably won’t happen. Let's go,” Alma …show more content…
I just was mad and kicked a rock.” I climbed up and started walking around. I was mad and I was looking for the rock I kicked. I didn’t quite find the rock We started walking and I was so excited. I got to shoot my first deer with a 50 BMG. As we continued on the trail my excitement diminished. We were following a trail of blood that seemed to be getting smaller. We finally found a pile of blood and I about jumped for joy. That meant the deer was slowing down. “Dad we should move into a fan formation. It would help us find the deer faster.” We moved into a fan formation and lost sight of each other. As I walked forward I saw the branches in front of me move. I stopped in my tracks. In Front of me was a huge black bear. I grabbed my gun and shot it in the air. The bear started to run towards me and I ran. I ran back the way I came. Sprinting I started to scream for my life until I fell the cold hard dirt was the last thing I felt before I felt the snap of my back as the bear landed on it. The cold ground started to warm as my vision blurred. The loud noise of a gunshot was the last thing I heard before I blacked

We set up and went to bed early. I could hardly sleep. The whole night is kind of a blur, but the next morning around 5:00, my dad woke me up and we all set out into the darkness. Hiking up to the area where we thought the elk would be, we saw a huge, 8 point bull elk, but it was before shooting light and we had to let him run off. After this, my dad and I found a small meadow in and sat down to wait for shooting light. As the meadow filled with light, we heard tons of shots all around, but mostly down the hill below us, we saw nothing, so after an hour or so, we moved on. After a while trekking through some thick brush, we found a clearing. The cycle of hiking, waiting, and seeing nothing repeated itself a few times. Then, in the closing minutes of daylight, we came across Kotchwar, who had downed a cow elk an hour before. We all headed back to the spike camp. Kotchwar headed back to the main camp, and my dad and me felt some disappointment watching him leave, but this had happened before and my dad had gotten an elk, so we had hope. We made these horrible MRE like things for dinner and went to bed, feeling optimistic for the coming…

It’s November, so that means its deer season. Every year deer season starts on the second weekend of November and last for ten days. I get really excited around August because during this time my family and I start exploring the woods looking for signs of deer. We look for signs like scrapes on trees, footprints, and tall grass that looks like it has been laid on and flattened. We set salt blocks out around our tree stands and set our cameras out hoping to catch a picture of a big buck. After we finish all the preparing we wait until the first week of November. During the first week of November we go back to our stands, check the salt blocks, set new blocks out, and grab our cameras to take back home. Once we get home we look at the pictures…

Without a doubt, the white-tail deer should be hunted.…

Not only is hunting an exhilarating experience but so is the feeling of being surrounded by wilderness. During winter times since I was 12 years old, my father would take me out on long drives in the middle of winter to hunting sites just outside of Edmonton. What made the drive not seem so long was the scenic route we would always take. Every once in a while I would see little white rabbits hopping around and leaving miniature footprints all in the snow next to the road. Further down the road we would pass a fairly big hill that had two pine trees at the top of it. I always wondered how long they had been there considering the fact that they were over thirty feet high. Finally we would get to the hunting ground and make are way down to a little patch of brush where we would crouch and wait for the deer to pass by. The feeling of the cold snow crunching under my boots, the frost covered branches of the bush we were nestled under, and all the little footprints that surrounded us gave me a feeling of unity with nature. After hiding in our spots for a long while, usually until my feet and toes were completely frozen it seemed, my father would whisper “Here comes one right now”. A few moments later I’d hear a loud bang and we’d be back on the road with our trophy and bragging rights. We have carried on this tradition every…
