Youth Hunt Narrative
“Wake up” my Dad said to me “It’s time to go out, get your stuff on”
I got up and put my stuff on “I’m ready” I said as I headed out the door.I was sitting with my dad. It was a good 22 degrees outside.I was hunting in Suamico. My stand was about 200 maybe more yards away. Wyatt Kaczrowski and Brady Eick were not hunting very far away from me in the woods. I then saw my ground blind and was ready to hunt. It was the youth hunt and I was heading out on a journey I would never forget. It was a Saturday morning. I did not see anything besides the squirrels that were staring me in the face and saying, “sorry nothing today.” I went again later that day at about one o’clock. I was sitting there as i saw nothing again it was just a bad day for hunting didn’t see anything

that Sunday morning I told my dad “I’m shooting something today.”As I got out to my stand at about six o’clock in the morning. I saw a fawn that morning but we don’t shoot fawns even if it was my first deer.Me and my dad were back in that old ground blind in Suamico that night at one o’clock. Then it was about seven o’clock getting dark we were about to leave until a doe came out of that woods. The doe looked nice like it ate a lot I put my 270 rifle on a board to rest it on. Then I put the crosshairs on his heart and BOOM! I sat right there happy as can be. Then we hear another bang Wyatt shot a deer to, I thought to myself. Then the search began for my deer. It was dark so we could not see the dark red blood. My dad had a flashlight we looked and about ten yards into the woods my doe was sitting there. I was so happy that I shot my first deer. She weighed about 150 pounds. And it turns out I was right Wyatt shot a three pointer. That day was a great day for hunting. That night with those two deer down was great. As it was now gun season and I was ready to hunt. I was in the stand and then that 8 pointer that was on camera walked by my

We set up and went to bed early. I could hardly sleep. The whole night is kind of a blur, but the next morning around 5:00, my dad woke me up and we all set out into the darkness. Hiking up to the area where we thought the elk would be, we saw a huge, 8 point bull elk, but it was before shooting light and we had to let him run off. After this, my dad and I found a small meadow in and sat down to wait for shooting light. As the meadow filled with light, we heard tons of shots all around, but mostly down the hill below us, we saw nothing, so after an hour or so, we moved on. After a while trekking through some thick brush, we found a clearing. The cycle of hiking, waiting, and seeing nothing repeated itself a few times. Then, in the closing minutes of daylight, we came across Kotchwar, who had downed a cow elk an hour before. We all headed back to the spike camp. Kotchwar headed back to the main camp, and my dad and me felt some disappointment watching him leave, but this had happened before and my dad had gotten an elk, so we had hope. We made these horrible MRE like things for dinner and went to bed, feeling optimistic for the coming…

It was crazy to start the hike with green grass but end up in snow and freezing rain and mud. On one part of trail we were hiking and fell into the icy cold river. We had to peel our boots, socks and pants and put our thermal gear on. Of course this brought on more rain. We sprinted down a large mountain while freezing cold with no boots or socks on. Everyone was miserable. We finally made it to our campsite, where we started a fire and listened to bugling Elk while staring at the stars. We woke up the next morning to three large Mule Deer looking into our tent.…

Throughout the years of going hunting with my dad I have learned and gained many new skills that not many people are able to say that they have. I also gained the opportunity to kill multiple deer while sitting with him. As I got older I eventually got to the point of being able to go by myself. Soon after I began to go alone it made me gain more responsibility due to knowing how to properly operate a firearm and knowing the right way to do things to remain safe.…

So, some people went to see what the noise was. I fell back asleep and when we woke up I was told that Greeb and Frok were badly injured by a dire wolf attack, so we needed to stay in the huts for the day. I went down to the river and ate some dried rabbit, then grabbed my arrow to find more. My dog Bork was able to sniff six out, so the supply did not go dry. I saw something in the distance watching us, but it walked away, so I went to camp and went to bed.…

Wyatt and his friend were sent to town to gather supplies for the road when, as they passed the bar, two men burst out the door with guns drawn, each firing at the other. A total of five or so rounds were fired before both men collapsed near the two young men. One dead, the other about to be. This single moment frightened Wyatt up to his conscience, and he ran. Later that night, when his father heard of the story, Wyatt was explained the many variables and reasons that could have caused the assault. This image would stain Wyatt’s maturing brain for years to come, even until he too would be the gutsy one shooting at point blank, only he would not die from getting shot like these…

When he got a little closer, he saw a very large animal who was covering an abnormally large amount of ground in a short amount of time. He describes the animal as to cover about fifteen to twenty feet in just two strides, while not running. The creature made absolutely no noticeable noise. He mentions what he saw was the creature standing seven to seven and a half feet tall and an estimated five hundred pounds in weight. He describes the creature as being muscular and covered with dark fur, with long arms and hunched over posture. The deer hunter states that the creature moved quickly down the hillside and was gone in just a few seconds. Like both of the above incidents, it happened in a wooded area which provides plenty of coverage for the…

Will had grown up hunting with his father and felt that he had the sport down to a science. Hunting for both food and sport, his rifle had brought down even the most wary of prey. With the coming of a new season; however, a new challenge had arisen: bow-hunting. Setting off into familiar mountains with an unfamiliar weapon, he began his hunt for a male, bull, elk. It was here that his whole perception of hunting changed. While sitting in his tree stand over a wallow, a spring dug up by animals, a massive bull wandered in to get a drink and initiated a single moment, lasting seconds, which he would never forget.…

I should’ve known something was wrong when the dear fell into the road on my way to the top of the Roan. I was driving along the rough road up the Roan, when out of nowhere, what appeared to be a yearling doe fell from the top of the Plateau and started running at full speed down the mountain. I assumed the doe had gotten a late start and was trying to catch up with her herd, but it had a primal fear in its eyes that I thought was brought on by the unexpected sight of me in the truck. This was odd because deer aren't…

For me, there is nothing better than getting up for the first day of bow season. I can barely sleep the night before because i am so excited to just be in my treestand. I wake up early, bow hunting is well worth getting up early. You can use a crossbow or a compound bow, i use a compound bow. I shoot a mathews but some people shoot other products like Hoyt, Diamond, Bowtech, PSE, or Bear archery. There is so many smooth shooting bows and for me there is nothing better than shooting a deer with a compound bow. You get so much of an adrenaline rush when a deer is within thirty yards of your treestand. You must sit still and move slow, otherwise they will spot you quick. A doe gets me excited but a big rack buck gets a ton of people excited. Many…

Not only is hunting an exhilarating experience but so is the feeling of being surrounded by wilderness. During winter times since I was 12 years old, my father would take me out on long drives in the middle of winter to hunting sites just outside of Edmonton. What made the drive not seem so long was the scenic route we would always take. Every once in a while I would see little white rabbits hopping around and leaving miniature footprints all in the snow next to the road. Further down the road we would pass a fairly big hill that had two pine trees at the top of it. I always wondered how long they had been there considering the fact that they were over thirty feet high. Finally we would get to the hunting ground and make are way down to a little patch of brush where we would crouch and wait for the deer to pass by. The feeling of the cold snow crunching under my boots, the frost covered branches of the bush we were nestled under, and all the little footprints that surrounded us gave me a feeling of unity with nature. After hiding in our spots for a long while, usually until my feet and toes were completely frozen it seemed, my father would whisper “Here comes one right now”. A few moments later I’d hear a loud bang and we’d be back on the road with our trophy and bragging rights. We have carried on this tradition every…

After I ate I went and got all the hunting stuff on like heavy-duty paints and shirts. Stuff like that. All my hunting stuff that I just put on my dad sprayed with no sent the night before. No sent is an oil that takes the human sent away so the deer won’t run away if they smell something. After we all got the rest of our hunting stuff on we started our little walk out in the woods about a little father that a mile behind our house. When we finally got there my dad sprayed deer sent that would attract the deer to come closer when the wind carries the sent.…
