Personal Narrative: Galapagos Islands
Personal Narrative: Galapagos Islands

Experiencing nature as it should be is a privilege not everyone has. But I had the opportunity thanks to my great Aunt Lynn. About two years ago, she invited my family and I to go on a trip with her with national geographic. She left it up to us to figure out where we wanted to go. We called her up and told her where we had decided to go, “We would like to take the trip to the Galapagos Islands.” This trip was important to me because it influenced the way I see nature, and I learned things that many people don’t know. My aunt told us that she would cover the trip if we paid for the airfare, which was undoubtedly expensive. “Wake up! We’re gonna be late!” My mom’s screams woke up the whole house, and we scrambled to get to the airport on time to check in our bags. Unfortunately we were too late, the bag

It had a red sanded beach, and we got to see the Sealions, a Galapagos Hawk, and the Marine Iguanas, which are the only species that swim underwater to eat the algae off of rocks. The next day, we went to another island and saw the Blue Footed Boobys and Frigate birds. The Boobys were sky pointing and doing their mating dance around their nests, and the Frigates were puffing up their red bellies to the females. When I went back to the ship, I worked on my questions that I had gotten from the naturalists in my room. Later on in the trip, I turned in my questions and became a junior naturalist. The naturalists taught us about the inhabitants of the islands and how Charles Darwin proved that natural selection was real in the Galapagos Islands. I learned a lot more than I would have in school, and I can’t wait to go on the next trip to Baja California. This trip has impacted the way that I see nature, and I found it interesting that evolution was proved there. If I had not had the privilege of this trip, I would not know nearly as much about nature as I do

The most interesting part from the lecture was the opportunity to traveling abroad and the experiences shared from the students. One of the students traveled to Iceland to study the soil and how it was different from the rest of the world. He said that the group he was with went by volcanos, climbed glaciers, climb rocks, and other fun activities. These stories make me want to travel abroad if possible because of the unique experiences each person brings back. Another interesting thing that I learned from this lecture was about this class offered at Ohio State University that took the class to a body of water in Columbus to examine different species present. It was interesting because the professor was one of the leading researchers for this type of work. Overall, the class looked interesting and unique.…

Iquitos, Peru. One of the most diverse places I have ever traveled too. With the Amazon rainforest surrounding the land, only being able to reach the city by plane or boat. One of the big things that I remember from the city is that almost all of the cars were motorcycles except for the taxis. That was a feature that made this place unlike no other.…

While I have enjoyed learning about the world my entire life through books, school, and the internet, I have yet to to see it. My favorite classes have always been those about other countries and cultures, and I have always aspired to one day see the many different places I have learned about. Surrounded by friends and classmates at Tufts that have travelled to places I have never even heard of, my interest has only grown. The…

In August, 1989,my Tech-Sergeant -husband, Dennis had just received orders to Howard Air Force Base, Panama. we were excited about the move. Gadding about Central America visiting the Panama Canal, and learning Spanish were some of the adventures that we envisioned doing. That was until we discovered his tour was unaccompanied; meaning Dennis would be leaving us behind; our joy was immediately deflated. This was especially worrisome for our sons, Russell, 12 and Patrick, 10…

I've got bad news, I'm afraid I won't be able to go to Bahamas with you after all. What a pity! The doctor has just told me I have to stay in bed for the next three days at least. She says I've got severe respiratory tract infection. I've got temperature, a sore throat and a headache that makes me feel as though there's a tight band around my skull. The medicine the doctor gave me tastes like a poison, and I have to take it four times per day. Still, the body is a wonderful thing and I'm sure I'll make a speedy recovery, and the sooner the better! Enjoy your holiday. I've heard that the food there is…

“Before I suffered the loneliness forced upon me on Calypso’s Island, I had sojourned on the Island of Zýmosi. My visit lasted merely ten days, but a brutal ten days it was. The island overflowed with trees as tall as the mast on a Greek Bireme circa 500 BCE. I slithered my way into the trees, hoping to find a soul kind enough to provide Xenia, however the maze of trees clouded my view of the path. The miniscule pathway encrusted with dirt and pebbles, led to the tree towering over all. My eyes ascended up the trunk hoping to encounter the owner of the land. Instead, my eyes united with the eyes of a man dangling from the most elevated branch in the tree. His limbs flailed around in the wind with no sign of control. I thrusted myself upon the branch grasping onto the ground and my body vanished into the cyclopean bundle of leaves. Bustling through the greens, a flailing body laid upon a thin branch waiting to snap, caught my eye. My feet leapt ahead of me in an a desperate attempt…

It’s Monday, December 9th. Today just seems unusual, like something big is going to happen! I wonder what it will be for a split second, then go back to studying for the Latin America quiz we have tomorrow. Mr. Fielder announces what questions we should highlight on our worksheets. I watch him go back to his desk. I look up and out the window, I see the glistening shimmer of fresh snow dancing in the sky. I cherish every second of it, wishing the time would go by slower. As time creeps closer to 12:20 p.m., the more I shudder at the thought of having to go to room 224. I finish making my flashcards, using splendid handwriting, and proper spelling and grammar. The clock whispers 12:18 p.m. in my ear, I turn white as a ghost.…

In the winter of 2016, my cousins decided to go to Xel-Ha. We warned them about all the iguanas, but they didn’t listen and went anyway. When they returned home, we found out that they didn’t meet any iguanas! We were mad that we had to constantly deal with the iguanas, and they didn’t. Although I never want to go back to Xel-Ha in the summer, I was glad that I tried something new. This trip has been memorable to me because I tried something new, even though it didn’t turn out that it was…

Whether it be witnessing, first-hand, global warming affect the agricultural lives of those around me, with this years wash-out summer. Or, experiencing the geographical significance of the ancient world whilst visiting the phenomenal pyramids. Travelling has also allowed me to improve my awareness of the social, environmental and economic differences around the world.…
