Personal Experience: Exercise And Substance Abuse
It was a little hard to remember everything we had gone over during the semester. I finally had to flip through the book to make sure I didn’t forget anything. I felt like some of the chapters didn’t apply to me like the chapter about drugs, but then I remembered my almost addiction to the most used drug in society. I drink way too much coffee. It doesn’t help that I compare myself to other people and see they drink more so I think I’m doing fine if I don’t drink a pot a day. I think that is my worst flaw. I compare my health to others and if I am better than them, I think I am OK. Throughout this course I have learned ways I would like to change. Chapter three covered ways to exercise. It was really helpful. I didn’t know it was important …show more content…
The pictures were the most helpful to me. I won’t try an exercise if I don’t know how to use it. I will be using the back extension exercise from now on. Posture and how someone does an exercise is really important. If I did something wrong, I could really hurt myself. Or I couldn’t get a good of workout if I do the exercise wrong. For example, my dad and I were at the Y and a woman was using the abdominal machine wrong. She was extending too far. My dad corrected her. I wanted to try it like she did and it didn’t seem as good a workout as I was used to. So from now on I will be getting instructions on how to do new …show more content…
I learned a lot of good foods to eat. I really like the tables that were throughout the chapter. They told me the possible benefits of each food. Just from the tables I want to eat more tomatoes, nuts, onions and whole grains. It would be easy to incorporate this into my diet, considering most of these are lying around my house. I would also like to just eat 2,000 calories a day. Throughout the semester I adapted and learned many new things. By far the most helpful was learning how to cope with stress. Especially now when at work (I work at Dollar General), we have had a couple counterfeit bills (the company won’t buy a pen to check the bills). It is stressful hoping no one gets in trouble. I cope by listening to relaxing music and trying to find humor in the situation. I find that the more things I try to find the humor in, the easier it gets. By learning and implementing all these new strategies, I am really improving my life. I think it will be hard at first changing, but over time it will get easier. It may be hard today, making healthy choices, but I hope down the road I won’t think anything of grabbing an apple instead of a bag of chips to snack on. I also think I will start to run again. The way I exercise and how I eat are at the top of my list to change after this course opened my

There is a common myth that high school is an established educational institute set out to deprive you of a social life and your hair before the age of 18 due to its curriculum and demanding courses .This is in fact is one of the biggest disclaimers you'll hear surrounding any high school. In reality, the academic aspect of high school is quite frankly the easiest obstacle to overcome. Although seemingly hard, for the majority of my academic classes this year I've easily adapted and have progressed quite smoothly within each individual course. To tell the truth the hardest course to overcome was AP Chemistry. While the subject itself captivated much of the basic knowledge taught in regular chemistry, the real difficulty was applying those…

I had some challenges in the first semester. I realized that it gets harder every year. I felt like ninth grade was a bit easier than this year. The final for English was easy. There were only two questions. We took a final for the novel, To Kill A Mockingbird. My goal is to have good grades, but also pass every class so that I don’t have to retake any. I want to be able to graduate on time. It always gets hard when almost end of the semester. That is the time when teachers start to give out more work. It’s a good idea but the same time bad. It can help bring grades up for some people. Most people are lazy so they rather not do it and fail the semester. My challenge was trying to focus with so many distractions in the way.…

Lastly is my third change, which is to focus on one thing at a time. I'll do this because it'll make doing homework projects and etc. easier for me and not overwhelming as much. Overwhelming myself it's pretty easy so what I'll do is one I'll take out one subject at a time preferably an order of my classes. I also know that if I'm not well organized things will get messy and things will be wrong. So to keep that from happening I'll put away or turn off all distracting things.…

I encountered problems such as finding a balance between social life and education. In the beginning of the semester I struggled to stay devoted to my academics because I wanted to do this and do that. I wanted to go out with my friends, go downtown, etc. I also struggled with motivation to complete my work efficiently. I struggled with time management.…

I’m glad I was able to push myself to get to that point! It was my mission to change everything about me, that I could change with exercise. Whenever I started talking to people about it, they talked as though it was impossible to do. I couldn’t believe what I was hearing. I knew that couldn’t be right! That caused me to research my theory, to see if it was true. Once I was able to find information that supported my theory, I started to create a plan to get my desired result. I stood in the mirror and looked at all the things about me, that I felt like I could change.…

Since the start of the semester, I’ve learned a lot about my personal fitness and goal setting, and I’ve learned a lot of valuable lessons that I’ll keep for life. I’ve learned that slim doesn’t mean healthy, what the total health model is (social, spiritual, physical, emotional) and what factors keep us from living healthy lives. I learned what physical fitness is, the major muscles and the FITT and FIRM principals. I learned which factors we can and can’t control about our bodies, how to increase self-esteem and the proper workout technique. I learned how to find my heart rate and how to calculate my target zone. I learned all this and many other things in this unit and plan on applying them in my everyday life.…
