Personal Essay- Betrayal
Personal essay #2
Trust. The foundation for relationships. It takes years to build, seconds to destroy. Throughout life, a person gives ones trust to the people she cares about. Betrayal. An act of disloyalty. In an instant, everything that was built on that mutual trust can be broken. It will all come crumbling down with one mistake. One act of betrayal.
A best friend is the person you rely on the most. She’s someone you would trust with your life, your secrets, and your emotions. You slowly let her into your heart and the trust accumulates over time. A bond is formed over those secrets, a friendship that will last. No longer is anything off limits, and if that person ever needs to talk, someone will be there.
One moment can change it all. The person you thought was your confidant turns out to be a backstabber. All of the secrets and shared emotions are turned around and used against you. Your weaknesses are played until you break down and are slowly torn to pieces. Finally, the person is seen for who she truly is. All of the rumors and the so-called lies are true. You, being the better person, tried to look pass them, give your friend the benefit of the doubt. But when the truth comes out and the lies being to unravel, what do you have left? When do you know to let a friendship go and when to hold on? From that point on, all the trust you once had for your friend is gone and it can never be rebuilt.
When you entrust someone with your secrets, you are relying on her to honor them. Your feelings should be brought into account in decision-making. But when you are forgotten about, betrayed, there is no going back. The person you though she was is gone. All that’s left are feelings of hurt, questioning where you went wrong and how too more forward. Suddenly, a friendship is over.

I learned from the book Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson that friendship is tender and brutal event. When Melinda loses all her friends at a party just before she starts high school due to a grave of misunderstanding, she’s forced to reevaluate the nature of friendship. This story teaches me that friendship can change overtime and people can change too. This proves that you should trust no one because one day people can hurt you and let you down without knowing the true part of the story. In the book, everyone hates Melinda when she didn’t mean any harm, she just made the right choice.…

Trust is an important thing, but it must also be understood that trust being broken is not always one’s fault. There are occasions where life takes unexpected turns that change everything. Friar Lawrence played a rather large role in the love of Romeo and Juliet. The thing that some call ‘fate’ left Romeo dead because information had not reached him. Friar was left to say, “A greater power than we can contradict Hath thwarted our intents” (Shakespeare Scene V Act 3). So there are times when promises and friendships can be broken because of events that are neither persons fault, so sometimes one must resort to mercy and understanding for broken trust. Romeo and Juliet shows this as well as it could possibly be…

Betrayal from a friend is the worst thing anyone can do, take Julius Caesar for example that’s dead now due to Brutus’ backstabbing, literally. There are different types of betrayal, but it’s more drastic to be betrayed by a friend, possibly because it’s least expected while being hated by someone like an enemy is always awaited. A friend is someone anybody can personally trust. People express, share feelings and experience memories with their friends. Being betrayed by a friend will cause more damage than being despised by someone no one even knows or trust such as an enemy.…

Respect for each another is imperative in a friendship. Everyone has secrets, so one should not press for answers when the other is clearly unwilling to share the information. If the person wants to share the secret, it is important to be a good listener. One should be responsible by never compromising a friend’s trust and revealing it to other people. In addition to being considerate of another’s privacy, a good friend should not be too judgmental. Although one should never be afraid to contradict a friend, as everyone is allowed to have his own opinion, he should be mindful of the friend’s feelings.…

For most people, it is really hard to find someone who is completely honest, loyal, and a positive influence on your life, but there’s always a best friend for someone. Almost everyone has one and almost everyone is one. For me, I personally do not have a best friend. I stay to myself a lot and I’m not open about everything, it’s also hard to gain a new best friend if all of your old friends went off to college. A best friend is someone who is very generous, they’re there to lend you money when you run out, be your shoulder to cry on, and go out of their way if they really care about you. A best friend can be someone whom you’ve known since childhood but can also be someone that you’ve just met, and you both just click.…
